Yo-zuri surface cruisers

Hi all,

Check out these pics of 2 surface cruisers. The pink and white one was bought from Japan while the purple one was bought locally. The weight distribution of these 2 poppers are different and I guess this affects the action of the lure. The one from Japan has a different set of eyes too. Don't think the pruple on is made of poly balsa, were some of the older surface cruisers made of some kind of hard foam material? On another note, what do u guys think of popper copies? I think it is harder to copy a popper coz getting the exact weight distribution. Jigs on the other hand are easy to copy because all you need is to fabricate a mould.

The pink Cruiser is an old model and has a tougher finishing. Some shops here still have them, the packaging is totally different.

Re: Yo-zuri surface cruisers

I have few of those and it was very popular for Maldivian GTs

Cheers,

They are totally different foams, the newer Scs not that good.the casting not that fantastic too. What you can do is to change hooks and the new cruiser will fly into outer space. If you have the time spray one layer of laquer, will take 5 mins to dry.Your cruiser will last much longer.

Hey Edy,

The older version of SCs with the bulging eyes indeed has a tougher paint job. IMHO, action-wise I do not see so much difference as to affect the fishing much.

I guess the toughest part of popper making, if it's not going to be injection-molded, might be the bore for the thru-wire.

Agreeable?

Re: Yo-zuri surface cruisers

Actually topwater lures work just about as well with or without the paint job. For that matter, I've caught fish on jigs that were almost void of decoration! Only bits of paint left and even the glued on eyes were gone and that jig kept catching me fish!

As long as the lure casts well, gives you the desired action to catch fish, I would say the finishing is something negligible. OF COURSE, if that lure costs $100 bucks a piece and the paint job hardly lasts one fish... then that would be good reason to bitch about hmmm... that reminds me of my Fisherman Big Mouth popper

Re: Yo-zuri surface cruisers

thats if we are talking abt polyurethane resin lures but once paint works on a wood made lure is gone i guess you'll have hard time fishing with it
