Shimano Stella SW10000PG for popping?

I am going to start popping. Very newbie in popping and going finalise my order for the '08 model today. I know this reel is designed for bottom or jigging. The gear ratio of 4.8 doesnt seem too low but is it suitable for popping or I need SW10000XG for that?

hi cwtan12, there is no such model in Stella series SW10000PG but there is SW10000HG with the gear ratio 6:1 and it is used for popping mainly.

Hi,
I would recommend the SW10000XG, you really need the faster retreive, allows you to work poppers and stickbaits more effectively. Though I do have a stella 16000PG F(5.0 gears ratio), that I use to work Orion stickbaits, since high speed retrival is not nesseccary with these baits. It's alot more work and you tire faster with the slower retrieve rate. Since your new to the sport, to throughly enjoy your experience, practice, lift weights, and try to get with someone who knows the ins and outs of popping. Enjoy!

Thanks. I have changed the order to SW10000XG instead. I am not sure about Sg's price because I get in Taiwan. Shimano's agent here said should be able to get within this month.

Now no stock for SW10000XG or PG. You need to order and it will take quite long to reach (1-2.5mths). The usual price here is about NT$27-28k but I got them much cheaper for SW10k. That tackle shop sell me reels at almost their cost but they will make back from me when I get other things. A good way to do business..

I saw 1 SW18000HG at NT$29,760 in Etuoh. I know SW5000HG also available now. By the time you are here, maybe gone again

I think 10kXg is out of stock now. I checked the availibility for my frd last week and it was out of stock. If you are willing to pay a bit more at Etuoh, maybe you can get it because Etuaoh is big enough to stock up. Call them to check the availibility first. You can go to the Etuoh at Cheng De Road to ask them abt the availibility. It's in between Nanjing west and Yuan Shan mrt stn. Call me at 09 17710127 if you have problem. Weekdays only because I am out to the sea jigging every weekend. If you want old model stella at cheaper prices than Sg, I know a tackle shop having 5pcs of SW5k-8k for sale.

I didnt ask about the price but I know Shimano are generally cheaper than Sg. there are places to pop. Just that it's not popular. That's why popping trips here are hard to come by

You mean typhoon? Fish YFT, GT, AJ or Doggies? For YFT and GT, you need to head south. AJs in Sept are smaller. June is the best time for bigger AJ. It's rare to get AJs smaller than 5kg in Diao Yu Tai now.
