Shimano Popping rod...

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a medium range (for price) popping rod. Lenght about 8' 6", rated PE 4 to 6 with 60gr to max.100gr casting weight......

I've already asked about this at one of tackle shop and the guy told me that there'll be a new Shimano rod coming soon with the same spec. If my memory served me well, it would be this month (March). If anyone come acroos to the infos, please share....

The rod will be intended for tuna popping and I hope it would be medium to slow taper for working stick bait with ease ......

best rgds,
Lod.

Talking Re: Shimano Popping rod...

The rod will be available early next month, do look out for it, some of its features are:

-Machined aluminium reelseat with fuji long lock nutt
-Reelseat direct fit to blank(no weak bushings involved!)
-Fuji SIC CMNSG and CMNST top guides
-Alu gimbal with radius cut slots
-Unsanded hi strength carbon w slit tape blank
-Velvet EVA grips with grooves for slippage prevention and comfort
-Butt jointed 2 pc design with slipless joint taper design
-5 different models to suit different popping locations
-Reelset spacer to accomodate large reel foots

If there is anyone who has test casted the rod, it will be our very own dear Stikbom here

hmmm.... that sounds pretty familiar The Ocea isn't exactly soft Juan. Have you tried fishing one before? They are easy casting and powerful rods IMHO. I had a 82MH and a 80H... still have pretty fond memories of them

As for the upcoming rods, they are totally different from the Ocea series. The two heavy/close quarter combat models rivals the "biggest guns" you can find out there and even their two "long cast" models pack quite a mean punch... definitely not for the weekend warrior. The lightest model will be hot fav amongst the anglers who target Sailfish/ Mahi Mahi/Out-sized Toman in heavy cover on smaller surface plugs.

These are my first impressions of the 5 models... and I have not seen the end product yet. The ones I was casting/pulling on were totally raw... guides tapes on... no gimbal caps what so ever!! (Went home with several bruises in the lower abdomen after loading something like 9 prototypes that day)

Juan, its either you or the rod bending. Which would you think would be the more logical candidate?

Re: Shimano Popping rod...

(LP-Fast Action-7ft6) S7604 Light Pleasure
Light Pleasure has been developed for anglers wishing to target medium size fish without having to use extra heavy equipment that tires them down prematurely. This fast action rod is ideally suited for PE2-4 line using poppers below 100g. It is versatile enough to use with a wide range of lures, be it poppers or stickbaits and is a enjoyable way to appreciate the sport of popping without the aftereffects of sore arms.

(PI-Mid Fast-8ft4) S8406 Pencil Instrument
Pencil Instrument has been design with a mid-fast action with a light tip to load and propel these lures great distances. Suited for PE lines 4-6 and lures up to 150g, the PI is ideal for targeting species such as Trevallies, Yellowfin and large Mahi Mahi. With this rod you can now target previously unreachable spots with your pencil poppers and translate every flick of the rod to an enticing dart of your lure.

(LC-Mid Fast-8ft2) S8208 Long Cast
Suited for PE6-8 lines and poppers to 200g, this versatile stick is a marriage of both casting ability and fish stopping power. If you are targeting large GTs that are street-smart and tend to swim away from the boat, this rod will give you a superior advantage over other anglers in sneaking in trophy fish right under their noses. The LC is also ideal for popping in areas whereby the boat cannot get too close to the reef due to safety reasons.

(DM-Progressive-8ft) S8012 Deep Monster
Deep Monster models are specialist rods for PE8-12 lines and poppers to 300g. They are the rods to use for Monster Giant Trevally in excess of the magical 50kg mark that patrol ocean atolls. When you fish such areas, the GTs that live there fight deep and dirty. In such conditions, the only way to stop such a rampaging brute without the angler going overboard is to use a progressive action rod to lessen the load on the fisherman and yet put tremendous pressure on the fish. This is the essence of what this rod was designed for.

(SM-Mid Fast-7ft S7812 Surface Monster
Another specialist rod in the stable is the Surface Monster. The SM is another heavy artillery suited for PE8-12 lines and poppers to 300g. It is used for situations whereby the angler targets monster fish patrolling shallower reefs systems. In instances like this, a faster action rod is needed to immediately dictate terms to the fish or the battle will be lost. This mid fast action has the ability to virtually stop and turn a monster in its tracks and it also allows the angler to punch out big poppers on extra heavy PE line more easily. It is also built shorter to maximize the leverage the angler has on the fish.

Re: Shimano Popping rod...

No worries.....irregardless of brand, pls get something that you can use most of the time for the place you will fish most regularly; and not just buy the heaviest model you can find.....u will catch more fish and have more fun this way
