Rompin Sails

Hello guys n gals,

Which Hot's popping rod would be appropriate for popping Rompin sailfish? I already have a SW6000. So I would like to use this reel to go with the hot's popping rod... I'm also open to other recommendations.

Thanks a million

Hi Joseph,

The Hots' Gipang Tide Lez 72M is a great rod for that place and yes, it does go very well with your 6000. Cast weight max is at 100g, so casting those 80-90g Indon/Thai poppers is great (cost from $20-$25). Besides poppers, it is as efficient in casting those light stickbaits as well. And lastly, this rod is 7ft2" and rated PE4-6.

Regards,
Narc

Hello Narc,

Thank you for taking time to answer my enquiries.

There are some "concern" that 7.2 ft rod might become unwieldy in constraint of space on a small craft. Would 67M be a better choice being able to cast 60g of poppers and stuff. To my understanding, most of the poppers used in Rompin generally weigh 40g. Please correct me if I got the infos wrong as I'm a newbie and have not done sail popping.

I was wondering which Hot's model would you/others chose if you were to look for a popping rod specifically for Rompin sail?

Best Regards

Hi Joseph,

Understand your concern about the lure weight, for this rod, 40-100g lure weight is not a problem to cast. So far all the boats I have taken in Rompin and Nenasi have enough clearance for casting with this rod. Of course when it comes to tackle, there is no hard and fast rule to what is the best or appropriate, individual preference is utmost important. So go with your heart!

Happy shopping!

(ps. you got to be quick, season ending soon!)

Hello Narc,

Good morning, another newbie question. Will I have a problem popping for sail with 6000PG instead of HG? I read so much about blue waters popping requiring HG so I'm thinking is there a need for HG for Rompin sail popping.

Hi Joseph,

PGs are ok.... just crank a little faster if there is a need.. anyway for 6000, the PG and HG gear differential is only 0.7 ... not too drastic.
