Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Hi guys, I have a shimano caranx long cast 8'2 on order and am trying to determine which reel size will be best for popping/lure casting on a future trip to the Solomon islands/Fiji... I’m thinking about getting a shimano saragosa 14000f but am worried that it might get a bit heavy after a while and that it wont balance well with the caranx LC!? Shimano 8000 models would be good (weight wise) but the ones in my budget (max. 400US$) only have around 27lbs/12kg drag vs. 44lbs/20kg drag on the 14000. Would the 8000 size i.e. 27lbs/12kg drag be ok for this rod and the up-coming trip? Or, would it be best to get the 14000f and put up with the extra weight? I'm planning on setting it up with PE6 - PE8. Unfortunately shops in my country don't stock any heavy spinning reels so I can't see for myself, that's why I need you guys to help me out! Any input's welcome!! Thanks, Luke Last edited by lukes : 14-06-2009 at 12:23 AM. |

Even if you could find a smaller reel within your budget that has plenty drag, it may not hold enough line if you're planning to fish with 80lb lines. FYI, the larger Stella and Saltiga spinners isn't going to be much lighter than the Saragosa

Another question: What would the max. drag be that the Caranx LC 8'2 at can handle? The line class is stated at PE6-8, does that mean the max. drag the rod can handle is 1/3 of that, therefore 12-15ks (if the line was 36-45kgs) at 45degrees?? Cheers |
