I had quite a few rods with peanut epoxy too...but I kind of like them.
However, the "peanut" is not very peanut on Carpenter rods....more like a "kidney". A bit too big....

So, was wondering if in the process of custom making a rod, can we request for smaller & neater epoxy?

Hi all....just nice to see some discussion here on carpenter rods, and good to know that some are owners of it.
Been wanting to get a carpenter jigging and popping rod but so far not much choice from the local scene. But when I tried to order from them, they refer me back to the local agent here.
Anyway, i am looking at a custom built one not their factory rod.
Any difference between their custom built and factory rods especially in terms of the epoxy?
Knew of some anglers who complain about some rod builders in Singapore who likes to do 'kidney' or 'peanut' epoxy on the guides , but just check out those large "kidneys" on Carpenter rods...
I saw the jig/ popping rods at Richards' shop.... wanted to get one but its the epoxy that puts me off.

Anyone here knows how to place an direct order with carpenter (instead of going through so many parties) for a customised popping rod and also if its possible to request them to thin down the epoxy a little?

Spoke to Adrian @ Angler's Hut sometime ago and he told me there's an custom order form now, go check it out. Try and contact "Sportfisherman" if the local dealer cannot help you.

had spoken to richard much earlier about this issue in jan, but find it very troublesome and draggy. anyway, that time i only mentioned about the thread/ blank color, none on the spec of the rod. wonder if they can do it according to your specs or u just get to choose the color of the binds and drawings on the rod only, where the handle length and choice of guides is entirely up to them.

how the epoxy on your custom carpenter rods anyway? hope they are not as huge as those factory ones.
