    Caranx Kaibutsu

Been searching through the website of all linking to the caranx kaibutsu but there aint no specific performance for the rods. Was trying to compare it between the deep monster and the surface monster esp the max drag setting and the minimum lure weight for it. So any sifu who tried this rods, please give me some info or feedback on it. Thanks in advance

    Hi Akudou,
In terms of max drag and minimum weight, both are identical. The difference will be more in action and length. For the DM, the rod is longer with a slower action to improve on leverage for deeper fish, while the SM is shorter and faster in action for fish in shallow but very "dirty" terrain. For both rods, a good cast weight would be 150g and up to load the rod properly. As for max drag, at an angle of 45degrees, both rods are capable in excess of 20kg, but a more comfortable usable working drag range of 12 to 15kg.

P.S. The rods are designed for low mount belts like the braid tuna belts instead of the high mount jigging belts

JIGW, thanks for your feedback. I tried popping from the shore today using 100gms on the DM and manage as far as 60m. The popper feels too light that when i cast it, i cant even feel the popper chugging when i side stroke it through the surface and the stifness makes it hard to side stroke using the light popper. Light popper tires me out if compared to the heavier ones cos i utilise the tip action on heavy poppers. Cant seem to find any popper here thats 130 to 180gms. I'm sure that will even more effective and also achieve greater distance. Not bad action i must say if it was to hit a mama GT but im also looking at the Long Cast model.

    Hi Akudou,
If you are able to get 60m using 100g, I'm really impressed and you are doing pretty okie already, distance should increase a fair bit once you start to use heavier poppers.....If you do pop with 100g only than the PI will be good, but a tad soft for GTs above 30kg, LC is great for 130g and up and can tame 30+kg relatively easily.....

JigW, manage to find a few poppers frm 130 to 180gms. Should be heading out to try soon. I do find it quite tiring after 6 to 8 throws on 170gms. You read my mind... LC is next on the list.
