Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Hi....for a budget rod I still stick to ATC 7'6", rated for PE-6. It's proven to be a GT slaughter, by my self up to around 20kg and by friend of mine up to approx. 50kg...... I've heard about what happen to ATC exploded in Bali....but that was not while in fighting with the beast, it happen while being tested again the fence or a tree with very high drag ! Perhaps it was inspired from some crazy guys in the caranx forum..... rgds, Lod. |

| Super Moderator | NICE!! Any instructions/diagrams on how to make that Al Cheapo popper? Oh by the way, Hock Heng is now selling a Penex Poder lookalike and AO has the Caranx Pen. Should go take a look when you're in town Jon. |

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | The Lemax Grand Tournament GT 86 is not bad either. Landed a 19kg GT at Louisa at ease. Have not got a chance to test it, against those mama.

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Re: Budget Popping Outfits Hi guys, I am new to this forum and as indeed to bluewater battles. I am looking at budget outfits to try out popping. I have been told about Lemax's GT80P and its GTi but I can't seemed to find in SG. 1. Does anyone know where can I go have a look see? As for the reel, I don't think I can afford the likes of Stella 10000HG or Saltiga Z6500GT.... So I am considering the new Shimano Saragosa 8000H(5:2:1)/ Navi8000PG since I can also use it for jigging. 2. Does anyone have any experience with the Saragosa model? Opinions? 3. I heard that this range can be use for popping and it has a bailless kit for; but the 14-18000 model is only 4:9:1? Can it really be use for popping? What advantages does going 'bailless' have? 4. I hope I don't sound too dumb but what's a 'decent' outfit going to be like and its costs...say for popping ard the region without venturing into the territories of the huge 'mamas' and 'papas'? Do forgive if I am longwinded but I am trying to get into bluewater realm being poison with all the pictures and procrastinating.... thanks for the patience though. Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Re: Budget Popping Outfits Yea, looks like you're right. Guess its either low or High.... Oh well, think i'll try the Lemax Grand Tournament but I've heard it is rather stiff when controling the fish... peanuts and monkeys I guess..... BTW, how's the performance of Shimano's Kaibutsu? I've also heard that a newer T-Curve rod for popping is out in OZ... |

| Senior Member | Re: Budget Popping Outfits Shel, i own a kaibutsu and did my first popping on it. Try goin to this thread Popping & jigging trip Brunei waters If you have the budget, then its a good mid range rod and value for money too. You should watch the Caranx kaibutsu dvd and look at the action of different models which will suit your needs.Hope this helps you making up your mind on the popping rod. Cheers, Felix Quote:

My Mood: Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Re: Budget Popping Outfits Hi Bros, I am trying to do both bottom/popping on my next trip. I had a Daiwa Saltiga Z30L paired with Hiramasa 56HB rod for bottom fishing. Don't know which popping rod for Saltiga Z4500H to married now (don't want to married Daiwa any more, will try another JDM brand). And what weight & size of popper will work for a beginner like me ? It would help if you guy pros can give me some advice so that i can make a right choice. Thanks Jimmy |

| Super Moderator | Re: Budget Popping Outfits Try the Shimano Kaibutsu Light Pleasure Jimmy. It'll match your Z4500 pretty nicely!
