    advice on popping rod

    hi,

i'm very new into popping so need some advices from big brothers here.
wish to buy 2 popping rods for my coming maldives trip(and other popping trips).

was looking at Hots Gipang 79/83, Carpenter LF88 and Smith Tokara or suggest any other suitable models.
wish to pair with z4500 and sw8000hg/sw10000xg.

heard from a friend that there is a Carpenter Black Current Rod max PE6 but i cant find on the net.

    thks in advance.

    Re: advice on popping rod

When u heading to maldives bro?

Have casted the Hots 83H, very nice casting action with those yozuri gt bulls.

Another rod im using now is the Patriot Anglers GTX82. Tat one comes in blank, so u got to find a builder to build it.

Maldives need a long casting rod to reach the reef.

Not too sure about the actual fishing conditions in Maldives but based on your choice of reels, I'd reckon the Gipang 83 or LR88 would be better bets. If you're a newcomer to the game, I'm very very sure you'll like to be prepared for that GT of your lifetime when it hits your popper BUT in reality, big critters like those that grace magazine covers don't appear all that often so if you're going to use really heavy tackle, you'll be tiring yourself out prematurely and killing the fun on most of the fish you'll encounter. I'm preparing for my own trip in March and may start going for casting practice again soon, after having taken more than a year off. Want to meet up and go practice together?

woah... you've got a casting team Chris? sounds serious man... I usually cast at Bedok Reservoir because there's a straight bus there from my place. Anyway you should get Euro R to join you guys because he'll get a chance to check out lotsa fancy gear! My popping gear is waaaaay outdated and I've got no intention of upgrading

    Re: advice on popping rod

I was told the favourite popper there is the Yozuri GT Bull.

For this trip, im mainly using alot of OEM poppers and poppers from PR-Labs.

Only 3 rods in BC series that will match Z4500 ; BC75MHS , BC78HS n BC611HSX/GM SHP but these rods are not considered as dedicated GT rods albeit some have used them to catch GT .
