Someone by the name of Lawrence dropped me a PM, asking for help on jigging.

Am very new to jigging.

I found from the forum that you like jigging and you have a vest collection of jigs. Can you help?

Recently got a chance to try jigging at kuching next month.

I need to ask you afew questions:-

1) Currently i have 3 reels: Shimano charter special 2000, Shimano TSS4, ABU 9000CL.
Which reel is better for jigging???

2) As for the jigs, my friends told me to get some jigs from 80g to 200g?
- Do you have any recommdations on jig that can be use in Kuching?? (weight of the jigs, colour, brands)
- Where is the good fishing shops to buy these jigs in terms of ranges and prices??

Any more info on jigging would be helpful.

I'm relatively new to the game as well. Will try and answer your questions to my best knowledge.

Your Shimano TSS4 & ABU 9000CL would do nicely.

2) As for the jigs, my friends told me to get some jigs from 80g to 200g?
:idea:

20lb mainline/30lb leader=80-100g jigs
:idea:

30lb mainline/50lb leader=100-150g jigs
:idea:

50lb mainline/100lb leader= 150-200g jigs
:idea:

Try not to use wire, I do not use wire and although I do lose a few fishes, my hit rate is always high.

- Do you have any recommdations on jig that can be use in Kuching?? (weight of the jigs, colour, brands)

I do not stick to any brands but for toothy fish like Macks (I believe you are going to Kuching for the annual Mack run right?) buy anything cheap will do. Jigs by Ofmer, Technics and Surecatch are under $10 a piece but will still work well if you get the jigging action right. Just remember this, when targeting toothy fish, NEVER use assist hooks. Match the jig to a suitable sized treble hook.

- Where is the good fishing shops to buy these jigs in terms of ranges and prices??

Shops like Sea Tackle, Joe's Tackle & Changi Pro carry cheap jigs. Just buy anything that's cheap will do.

Best tip I can offer is to use the thinnest, clearest possible leader and avoid wire. When I jig, the lighter outfits are always rigged with 8-10m of 30lb CLEAR nylon leader.

HI stickbom,

Have just bought 2 new jigs too hope to try it out on my my trip this labour day ... but i bought both 200 gms one... do u think its too heavy... anyway any idea what is the hit rate using jigs ?? trying out only just hope i can get fishes ranging from 4kg n aabove hehehehe

Yo Mikey,

Not using assist hook but suitable trebles for those Macs?

While I can agree it will give a better hook up at the base of the jig, will it affect the jig action?

Hi Ghani. If you fit the right size of treble to the jig it should be fine.
