Shimano baitrunner can use for jigging ?

Hello to all the Pros here . I have baitrunner 4500,will it be able to use for jiiging if i load 50lb braided line ??

No hard and fast rules saying Baitrunner cannot use for jigging. If I can jig with a simple ABU Baitcaster the Baitrunner should be fine. The newer Baitrunners with aero wrap and new rotor works much better with braids though. Are you using the newer ones?

Yup..Im using the newer 1 (4500B ). I just bought a shimano jigwrex PE 5. But after that some Pros told me that 4500B can only load till 30 lb braided...
And is not really good for jigging..Due to heavy weight !!!

I'm more concerned about the line cap than anything else actually. How much 50lb braid can that 4500B hold? To be honest I'm considering buying a 4500B myself, for stingray hunting Hey don't worry about what others say... as long as the outfit catches you fish... it's fine. By the way, have you loaded the 50lb braid onto the reel yet? If you loaded the line manually could you post a photo of your 4500B showing line lay? I'm curious to know if its as braid friendly as claimed. Thanks

I dont think the 4500 will be a good 50lb jig reel for the following reasons...

1)The 4500 is not built to jig with 50lb braid, For jigging, there is constant load on the gears, shaft, handle, drags, etc all the time. Using the 4500 with lighter pe class might be okie, however doing this all the time with 50lb braid may cause premature wear on the reel....

2)The baitrunner function works by pushing the lever inwards....result of this is that due to the nature of jigging, there is a high chance that you will accidently flip the switch to baitrunner mode and cause a mother of all char bee hoon aka birdsnest while jigging......

For budget conscious the BT4500B should be alright I guess. I mean... if the classic egg beater TSS4 can land big GT back in the old days, the newer Baitrunner series should be alright for occasional jig sessions. Everyone would love to own Stella/Saltiga but sadly, the price tag that comes with these reels are a little overwhelming for most.

By the way, Jigw brought up a very good point about the Baitrunner lever. Just hold it down with electrical tape before a jigging session and you'll be okay.

Mr Man, do you intend to jig very often? If not the BT should be alright. I'm using an even lower grade reel than the Baitrunner for jigging so I'm not trying to "sabo" you

No worries pal ! Frankly speaking , I dont mind to spend for something really solid 1 like stella or saltiga. But I dont think purchasing those high end reels at this moment is the right time..coz im still newbie into jigging. Anyway I will try it out to make selection before i open my wallet..lolx. Different people different method of fishing.Make sure we make the correction decision. I ever saw 1 guy using bait runner(4500B ) to lure sailfish... He said is a good reel..the only problem is the weight. Malaysia boatman using handline to fish sailfish..Well... Is all about the man behind the rod. lolx..

Tuffline 50lb 300yrds..My friend loaded it already..I try to contact him to take a photo on that reel.. Then post it here to share with everybody..Good luck guys ! May the fishes be with you !

Hi Mr Man,

Any rod or reel can be used whichever way the owner chooses as long as it is fished within the limits of the tackle. Whether they are the right or preferred tool for the job is another story altogether Reels like the Shimano Baitrunner, Shimano Thunnus & Penn Liveliner & other makes of spinning reels with the "freespool" function are designed specifically for livebaiting. So do keep that in mind.

As far as line poundage is concerned, again, any one can fill a reel with whatever poundage they choose, but can the reel (or angler for that matter) take the amount of stress the drag setting dishes out to the reel i.e. rule-of-thumb 1/3 = 17lbs of drag for 50lb line. If you plan to load 50lb braided because you want the thicker diameter for better abrasion resistance, but set the drag at say 10-12lbs, the 4500 should handle it without any problems. Remember, the Baitrunner series has a graphite rotor & the non-stretch quality of braid will put a lot more stress on it. So do keep that in mind.

As far as gear for jigging is concerned, do try both spinning & overhead options & decide which you feel more comfortable with before dishing out high dollars for a good set.

As far as using the Baitrunner for billfish is concerned, it is actually the perfect reel for livebaiting them, especially sails. Load it with 16 or 20lb mono, it will be heaps of fun!!!!! Why mono? Because IMHO, for an acrobatic prey like billfish that likes to jump, the stretch mono provides will result in less mainline breakage & pulled hooks. Opinions differ of course.

No worries man !! Hehehe.. Up or down I dont bother ..lol . What we 1 is the big mama to be "up "...hehehe " . We fix with rod and loaded it..no problem.
