New Blue Heaven L120 Hi/Lo versions

    Especially for overhead lovers...

Studio Ocean Mark is set to release 2 new upgraded bullet proof versions of the Blue Heaven L120...

There will be a high speed version, 5.4:1 gear ratio and a low speed version 3.7:1 gear ratio...

The low gear reel should be a real winch for short hard pumps

20kg max drag and a new set of power handles...nice

Looks like we will see a new gear design, bigger AR bearings, thicker side plates etc...

If only the Japanese put in as much R&D $, time & effort into the design of overhead reels....i'm pretty certain that the overhead vs spinner debate would be long over

Beauty indeed Mark and with a gear ratio like that... the new Blue Heaven would be the best reel for our local 2kg sinker Kurau season!!

it amazes that anyone would use a cork drag anymore. without the ability to change the drag washers from cork to greased carbon fiber, i would have to call this reel worthless. i'm sorry to be so harsh, but carbon fiber is readily available. i find it inexcuseable that the manufacturers would use a drag material that should have been abandoned 50 years ago.

Can this cork drag washer to be replaced by other material?

it would be simple enough to chisel out the cork and replace it with carbon fiber, but there are three potential problems. one is the adhesive. the best product i've found is loctite depend 330 with activator 7387. hopefully it will work. the second is to find a washer with the proper inside and outside dimemsions. figure they will be at least $20 (US) each. third is the thickness of the washer. even if you find a carbon fiber drag washer with the same ID and OD, the cork drag washer is probably twice as thick as the carbon fiber drag washer. as long as this does not create any spacing issues, it will be fine. it's the type of thing that you will not be able to determine with certainty ahead of time. it you tried to use two drag washers, one glued on top of the other, it is bound to be uneven and you've just made matters worse.

i really hate cork. for me personally, it is so incredibly discouraging to see such a beautiful reel with such an archaic drag system. regardless, market forces will be the final judge, not me......

Personally, I hesitate to get another Blue Heaven cos mine died on its first trip due to poorly designed or poorly chosen ball bearings. But then, my torsa also died on its first trip due to poor assembly. I am sticking to accurate and the shimano jigger now besides my spinning reels.

    How
