Yo Mikey,

Keitan was developed for Kei Hiramatsu's "Fake Jerk"? Know anything about the "Fake Jerk"?

Hi Clarence! I haven't found a deserted swimming pool to test the Keitan yet but I was told it darts around. I have only seen Kei Hiramatsu doing the Fake Jerk in still photos but not in motion so I can tell its a really long stroke but how fast he does it is still a mystery to myself. I'm going to use it on my 9' jigging rod to avoid disco-dancing on the boat Oh one more thing, I was told that the Keitan is very effective on Hiramasa/Kingfish... so those of you heading up to NZ should at least pack a pair in your tackle box

Wire eyelets on the Keitan are very large in diameter for a light jig and they also look to be positioned a little off the centre of symmetry...interesting

Mikey,

They do look veeeerrryyyyy nice and since long stroke styles seem to have proven effective on our Seriola population they should work very well... But I reckon 150g is a bit light for 400-500ft of water... the 200 might work better

I will wait for Benji to finish his work on the 1st DFM Psycho Jig and see what I can get him to send me.

In the meantime, I note that the 250g Blue Fox stuff continues to score ridiculously well against Mr Amberjack...

Regards,

Saimee

looks like a centre-weighted jig, quite symetrical. Therefore should glide & flutter when lifted then dropped. What does the "fake jerk" do to the jig and how "unusual" is this technique?

For the 3 Kings(NZ), 200g would be OK at the Princes Group but severally under weight for deeper areas like King Bank or Middlesex Bank.

Chris the jig is weighted slightly under the mid section. Not in the middle. The jig's designer starts off his jerk with rod tip pointed down at the water and draws it up sideways until the rod is horizontal (maybe even slightly higher) Pretty long stroke there... and I think it'll be easier to achieve the movement with longer rods like my CB ONE 84XH or Saurus 90H. Need to try out my hunch soon... the Keitans are far too pretty to sit in my cupboard!

attended the Osaka jigging festival held 2 weeks ago. Visted the Hots booth and got their DVD Magalog (video catalog) and had a long section on how to do the Fake jerk. It starts off with a short cast away from the boat & when the jig has hit bottom, it is high pitch, short jerked 3-4 times then a long sideways jerk. The slack line is wound in then high pitch, short jerked again to repeat the cycle. Currently the jigs weigh up to 200g but there is am increasing weight range now, up to 325g. Very nice, I just had to buy a few to try. Left the Fake Lez rods behind. This technique probably favours longer rods 6-7' long.

Hi Scarpie, thanks for sharing. Pretty good info you brought here..... Btw, do they up-load the video of Fake jerk in the net for free viewing ?

Sorry Thunnus, I don't know. The Fake technique is very simple, just as I described.
