On Gimbal Belts

I'm new to jigging and popping and want to ask about the gimbal belts. Seems some have the metal hinge to cater for the rod butts with a groove whilst others are round and cater for rods with round butts. I guess one allows restricted vertical movement whilst the other allows free movement. But when is which required? Then there are also the gimbal belts that have the metal piece in the middle and round sections on both ends as well.... Am I correct to assume with popping rods, the free round butt is preferred? Thanks.

Re: On Gimbal Belts

Its pretty personal when it comes to with or without a "pin". Personally I use to pop n jig without the pin as I find it a real pain to get my rod butt into position with an angry fish yanking on the other end. When you're not using the pin its sooooo easy to slide your rod butt in place.
