Sea Tackle has it. Some ppl swear by it but I don't seem to have much luck with the damn thing :P I've tried the 110/200g in various colors. If you're thinking of getting this for the upcoming YellowFin Tuna trip, I suggest you drop the idea and just buy a few OK (Hooker lookalikes) from Deepsea. Attach a Decoy treble to the OK and you're ready to rock and roll

do you mean Duel Aile Metal not suitable for YellowFin Tuna ? May I know the reason why ? Or perhaps you had any particular experienced with it ?

I bought Aile metal recently as well as OK jig and the original Hooker, but never still had a chance to try though...

OK (or Hooker) with treble, is it necessary or not with assist hook ? And when targeting YellowFin Tuna, it's quite often that the YFT is boiling in casting distance... Can we cast the jig ? And if we cast it, perhaps we can use popping rod instead of jigging rod, huh ?

Hey hey don't get me wrong buddy

I've got nothing against the Aile Metal CS

Some of my friends have caught heaps of fish with it but I just can't seem to make it work for me. For all you know the Aile Metal CS might catch you a monster YellowFin Tuna

Just a tip to share... most of my Japanese friends advice me to use smaller profile jigs like the hooker/ok when targeting YellowFin Tuna not because they can tell its prettier :P Simply because of the fact that YFT has excellent eyesight and feeds on small baitfish. The hooker/ok flutters on the drop and resembles a wounded baitfish so it will look more "edible" to the tuna. Oh avoid using assist hooks on the hooker/ok because they flutter on the drop and the assist will just snag on your mainline. A strong and matching sized treble would be best.

Edy if you promise to give TLC to my virgin CB-ONE I'll loan it to you for the YellowFin Tuna trip. Japanese anglers have very good success with long rods when targeting YFT. Remember the long rod/Dogtooth Tuna style Matsutani was using at Chuuk

I was told thats an absolute killer for YellowFin Tuna

Not sure about the Duel, but the OK jigs confirm works for YellowFin Tuna. As Stickbom mentioned, the Hooker-type jigs are not mean for use with assist hooks, so a good strong treble will do to ensure the desired action. The OK worked both with underarm jigging action as well as variable retrieve.

Ahh,...okay. It makes sense to me too...

I just saw the pics of 30KG YellowFin Tuna caught by Metalic Sardine.... that resembles to a baitfish too.

Btw, how long the CB-ONE is ?

And when we use a long rod for jigging, does is meant to horizontal jigging instead of vertical one ?

Hi Lod, my CB-ONE is 8'4" long.

It's for vertical jigging not jig casting like in the USA.

You jig with the rod placed on your fighting belt. Drop the jig, engage your reel, lift up your rod like you're pumping up a fish and wind up the slack as you lower the rod. Repeat. Get it

Yo Stickbom! thx for the link... So, 8'4" CB-ONE rod is suppose to be for popping/casting, rite ? And the application for jigging is a new info for me, especially if it turns out to be absolute deadly for YellowFin Tuna/Dogtooth Tuna....

Well, next time my trip would be easier 'coz only bring one rod for both popping and jigging...!

I've read that Ksong did also by using 8' GUSA Wahoo when targeting cow YellowFin Tuna (250lbs) with metallic sardine in Baja. And yes, his technic is by cast the jig and lift the rod up and down slowly instead of cranking fast.
Anyone can confirm its effectiveness in our water for targeting YellowFin Tuna ?

Lod, the CB-ONE BORON 84XH is a full fledged jigging rod. Casting/popping are secondary uses for it.

Once that happened I do not know where to find another CB for you.

Hi,

Sorry i m new to jigging & also to this forum. Ever tried to jig with treble hook at the bottom part of the jig unfortunately always kena snagged at the bottom on the reefs

Kindly advice what is the best metod to prevent such incident happened.

If the bottom is snaggy, don't attach treble hook at the bottom of the jig as it will increase the chances for it to be snagged. Just 1 assist hook at the top will do.

Hi Thunnus,

some tips on YellowFin Tuna jigging...

Kil's method of jigging for YellowFin Tuna is lifting the rod up and down without cranking but changing depth occasionally.

Catching YellowFin Tuna by jigging is not the most effective method, in fact catching tuna with jigs is not easy altogether. The best method I have experienced so far is; if they are marked on the sounder chunking is best and if they are chasing baitfish on the surface a popper is most effective.

On a trip with Kil we encountered a wide open bite at a floating rig, we had 2 guys chunking with 2 rods and 4 guys jigging; 2 jiggers using hooker 1 doing the jap style jigging and 2 other jigger using hammered diamond jig doing the yoyo method. In one hour we boated 8 YellowFin Tuna in the 20+kg range ....

Chunking - 6 pcs
jap style with hooker jigs - 1 pcs
yoyo style with diamond jigs - 1 pcs

The result shows that either style of jigging works, its the matter of getting your jig in the face of the fish! but nothing beats the taste of fresh blood!

So I must say if you die die want to catch a YellowFin Tuna with jig, your best bet will be to merge the 2 tactics, catch some bonito, cut em up and start chunking but of course you'll have to find their lair first. Working your jig on the chum line will give you the best bet and usually the top 30m is where the fish will be on standby waiting for meat!... my 2 cts.

If the weather cooperates later this week, I should be out catching my first blue fin tuna

you should watch the SAURUS videos shot in PNG... I nearly fell asleep watching one YellowFin Tuna after another being landed in the show. Hope I encounter the same YFT action on my next trip out... then I can call myself "Char-Siew"
