Even if he had broken it intentionally, you'll think he wouldnt have to do it 4 times.

IMO.....theres a fault in the binding process and the blank, nearly all the breaks in his rod are at the end of the bindings.....

Most "Jia lat' break I've seen. Multiple fracture.

Seems everything went wrong la....Never knew a rod could break like that.

Eye opener bro...

Must have been a "stage prop" in some charter operators promo video... purposely show rod exploding to make people think there's big fish in the area where they operate!! Sensational catchlines like "PE10 rod explodes into graphite chopsticks! Stella spool flies off!! Saltiga shaft goes into 90 degree bend!!!" hahahahaha Like what Hon-Su said... the breaks are all situated at the head or tail of threadwork... too much of a coincidence!

Hi guys,

Blank failure due to binding problem could be a possibility. Another reason could be the incorrect positioning of guides along the blank. That is (or was) a spinning stick if I am not mistaken. As such, It is not surprising at all (to me at least) for the breakages to occur where they did because when a blank is stressed, impoper guide placement can result in the guidefoot digging into the blank more than it should thus damaging the blank. And if the angler goes full bore & even if the pressure does not go beyond it's intended rating, the blank can totally disintegrated.

If this is a slow action bend to the butt kind of rod, which I think it could be looking at the last break at the buttwrap, I personally wouldn't expect it to just break into only 2 pieces either .... those tidbits look about right

Opinions diff of course.

Best regards,
Makaira

Hi fellas,

Good observation Honsu, Makaira's right as well I think. Understand that the problem with that rod was with the guides, could be spacing and I also understand that it's got something to do with the choice of MNSG and NSG selection for certain guides. Have you guys taken a look at the Fisherman Spinoza 5122 jig rods? I think the Spinoza is built with several NSGs.

What a weekend! was onboard White Manta last night and moving out of Nongsa in Batam to Ningpo Maru wreck when we hit an unchartered rock apparently. Lucky we were not far from shore. Boat took considerable damage- one propeller was sheared right off and the rudder wedged into the hull

Trip had to be called off obviously and even though we were just 500m or so from shore it took about a good hour and a half to reach back as we had lost all control over the rudder. The dinghy onboard was used with a lot of effort to try and steer big White Manta back to the marina.

I have arse luck when it comes to diving. In April onboard MV Seaborne, a similar accident happened, we hit a sampan full of local malay fisherman just off sentosa

Better go fishing instead

Nicely wrapped rod!

How come one of the feet on the stripper guide is outside the wrap?! looks like a spinning rod so if it is broken under load it should be digging in instead ..hmm

Black blank, CMNSGs, familiar butt wraps... hmm

I am really curious! tell me Mark!

I've seen 2 occasions where a rod had broken into 3 pieces but not like this :0

On both those occasions, the anglers were trying to free a snag by pumping the rod up and down on full drag and the top section of the rod had hit the overhead canopy of the boat.

I've seen a rod broke in 3 pieces on its first ever fish.......first dive for the fish.....crack.......but that was poor blank construction as the layers of graphite have air pockets and are separated.....

Any possible warranty claim on the rod???

no unfortunately I dont have any pics. Its a Grifton Kamikaze SP120, only worth $100aud. They're not distributing any rods for now until they resolve their quality management issue.

Hi shineshy,

I believe the MNSG and NSG are different model of guides from Fuji. Different guides serve different purpose, different kinds of rods.

NSG - Gun Smoke Frame, Silicon Carbide Ring

MNSG - Gun Smoke deep pressed frame, Silicon Carbide Ring

I have attached the pics for it. Hope this helps.
