    ATC Jig Hunter

    hi all,
i new here and like to discuss about this reel called ATC-Jighunter. There are about 3 models, 10/20/30.
It was recommended by my friend. He said is good, and proven.
He brought me to see the reel but i do not have have a feel of it.

Later i went again to have a feel of the reel and found out/noticed the clicking sound like riding a Raleigh bicycle when retrieving line.
but too late, i already ordered one for myself. So I said never mind la.

Wondering if anyone can help or knows where I can get the clicking sound off ? (or reduced).

I hope not to disturb my neighbour kakis (or give false alarm) when doing night fishing on boat.

Here is a Pic I am talking about.

    THANKS /Angkoli

May or may not be the ratchet. Some overhead reels (mostly yankee reels) comes with the clicking sound. abit noisy when ure playing it at home or a quiet place but when ure onboard, u wont hear it as loud as before. Anyway....its damn irritating when ure fishing at night. dun be too bothered by the sound or else u will find yourself selling it off as a brand new second hand reel.

I guess the culprit is the anti reverse dog....

Btw, how much does it cost....say the 30 model in the market ?

the sound is an acquired taste. remember you first mug of beer taste like horse urine?

also, it motivates your fishing mate as they know u are working hard.

some feels like its music to their ear while others hate it to its core, personally i dun like the sound at all, sold an Avet reel simply because of that sound, tot i'll learn to love the sound but was infact a big turn off after bring it out to the sea, however, had a friend who likes the sound of it and specially add in spring to the anti-dog for his Ocea Jigger 4000P to create that clicking sound which according to him helps in giving him a rhythm while jigging..

Would stay away from the Jig Hunter. A retailer told me that he has seen problems with as much as 30% of the Jig Hunters he has sold.

Yo man... good to see that you've make your way here.. and you're right, you are the friend that i'm refering too.. well, maybe its because of that sound that attract the 100lbs fish that you've landed, hahahahaha... me had started to do overhead again after giving it up perviously and had since managed to "con" a friend to sell me his limited edition reel so maybe i'll do a clicking sound conversion to see if any 100lbs comes to take my jig... but just hope that he didn't take back the reel prior to my conversion. hehehe...

    Best Regards
    Mark

The retrevial of this reel is indeed loud, but construction wise, it does look similar to Marfix. The price is pretty attactive which cost a fraction as compared to Accurate or Jigger.

i am afraid the sound is part of design, and nothing can be done about it. jokes aside, its not exactly that irritating.

my penn 9500ss also makes this sound but i still regularly use it.

I actually find it pretty amusing whenever I see posts seeking information as to how to "silence" a reel that uses an anti-reverse dog and not the totally silent anti-reverse bearing(s).

First of all, reels like Avet, Tiburon, Mamiya and now we have the ATC Jig Hunter, will inevitably be "noisy" because of the design. As far as the Avets & Tiburons are concerned, they basically do not believe in the reliability of anti-reverse bearings and as such stick to the good old dog system. They may change their minds in the future, who knows.

I am not too sure about the ATC Jig Hunter, but the Avets are one of the most quiet reels that use the pure anti-reverse dog system. There have been advice given to pack the "dog" with grease to silence it. But the fact of the matter is, such reels are by default, not silent. This lack of silence does not in anyway make them inferior reels to those that are totally silent. Therefore, if people cannot tahan such sounds, imho, don't buy the reel. If you think the ATC Jig Hunter is noisy, just wait till you crank a Penn International or a Shimano Tiagra or an Accurate ATD

With reference to your 1st paragraph,
I usually dont open the reel and tamper with it.
I prefer to seek advise before I make any decision to open it to grease it or send to any expert.
After all it is beneficial to me.

With reference to your 3rd paragraph,
"If people cannot tahan such sounds, imho, dont buy the reel".
This sentence is very easily said than done.
I know you and I dont mind the noise. But not everyone thinks like us.

Presume you were in my position, (own ATC reel) and like it very much.
You go for a fishing trip and started using the ATC for fishing.
Then your friends fishing beside you started to complain about the noise of the reel.

What would you do if you were me ???
Choose your fishing partner for the next fishing trip ?
Or better still, Charter the whole boat for yourself on your next trip ?
Not likely right ? Thats the reason why I am asking here.

    My original post says,
"I hope not to disturb my neighbour kakis (or give false alarm) when doing night fishing on board.

    Lets agree and disagree....hehe

Hahahahaha!!! Tell your friends the "silent reels" are not within your budget. Ask them "Want to sponsor me?"

But frankly, fishing is not known to be a quiet hobby, rocking boat, clinking & clanking of equipment when the boat rocks, snoring kakis, dropping of sinkers to the deck, etc. A noisy reel is actually part & parcel of the game and I sincerely believe there is nothing to apologise for if your reel happens not to be silent. Imho, should your kakis choose to leave you out of future trips just because your reel is noisy ........ what can I say

An idea just popped into my head, provide ear plugs to those who say your reel is noisy

Didn't mean to touch any raw nerves with my posting. Just voicing my P.O.V.

I am only seeking the "reel noise" problem.
Instead of trying to help me solve my noise problem, you are trying to teach me something else like.... "Tell your friend".
That's not a nice way to solve the reel noice problem.

If you cannot help me on the reel here, so be it. Don't teach me how to deal with my friend.
Lets just say its hard to get kakis like you, you know ?
.....I also don't mean to touch any raw nerve with my posting.

    Hi guys
This is my opinon of this issue.
If u have a noisy reel and scared your frens complaining to U abt itand U don want to open up the reel to stuff in more grease ,then I suggest u get a slient reel to suit them.
I think the only method to slient a reel is to stuff in grease or try to take out the dog system if its suitable.
If u frens don mind your noisy reel, its good for u.Cos U don need change to suit them.
But actually your frens should not mind your reel if they are your all time fishing buddies. They will understand your situation.
But your fishing buddies cannot tahan the noise and U don want to get another reel, I suggest "Time to find new fishing buddies"..Hahahhaahahah!!!!
But muz find the right fishing buddies cos if again they don like the noise and still u don want change the reel,U still need to find another group.Hahahahah!!!!

P.S. Anggoli, Makaira is juz trying to make the topic more amusing.Pls don misunderstood his intention. We are all here to learn and respect.

    Cheers
    Jason

Tsk Tsk Tsk ... Haiz ...... very sad to see such things happening here too. Oh well ... as you wish ... I shall not "teach" you anything . Never have I ever claimed to have taught anyone, nor will I ever be bold enought to "teach" anyone in an open forum. Just sharing experiences & points of view. If you wish to take it so personally, my apologies for posting in your thread. Jason, some people just are simply way too uptight to take things on the lighter side. Oh well...... end of story .......
