Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Nah doesn't look like it. If it were, it would be broken much higher up the blank. Bit of a worry though for Blue Rose wanna have's. |

The bottom was very snaggy and we kept jigging along a step...30m, 80m, 120m, 150m...the insane currents made things much more difficult. In some situations, a 520g crazy long could not find bottom in 30m of water, that's how strong the currents were! Last edited by MarkR : 09-10-2006 at 06:12 PM.

| Super Moderator | hahahahaha.... that reminds me of a "chocolate color" joke Mark cracked back at Bali. Its was his way of deciding whether we should shift to another spot when our jigs couldn't hit bottom. I guess the all important factor here would be whether you guys had fun out there. |

I don't regret selling the calstar jigging special because to me it is not a good jigging rod. The tip action is way too fast for jigging in my opinion. I also feel that for our style of bottom fishing in SCS the tip is too soft for heavy sinkers over 1/2kg...however, it may be the ideal Sabah rod because I gather that large sinkers near the 1kg size are not required in those waters, what u need there is a rod with good backbone and butt power but with a sensitive tip for optimal bite detection...I understand why frank likes it so much now for bottom in Sabah Reel is a jigger 4000P not blue heaven lar... 765xl for bottom good but for jigging tak shiok...got "kok kok" sound, like no cushioning when jigging! | Member | Hey there Mark, great trip u guys had. It's a shame the rod broke while you're on a fish. I'm sure the folks who sold it to u should be able to help if it's not too long ago.

| Moderator | MarkR, Was there any injury to the rod under that guide?. Reason I ask is because that area is very prone to impact with the edge of a boats gunwhale or rail in bad sea conditions or when you get nailed by a big fish.... Other than that, the guide looks to be underbound and I can't see much other reason for a breakage at that point... Anyway, S**T happens, its fishing dude, thanks for sharing your loss with us. Saimee

Hi DFM, I don't think there was any injury to the blank under that guide. I bought the blue rose over a year back and this was my second time using the rod. It hasn't caught many fish and if my sums are right I think it broke on its third fish. No big ones either.

There could be a manufacturing defect on your rod. No worries if it's still under warranty. I have 2 Jigwrex (strongly recommended by Mikey....steady pom pipi) which i'm going to bring along on my trip to Philippines and hopefully won't end like yours. Cheers physlo

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Hmnnn.....if that's the case, can i borrow your rod as back-up instead. Not forgetting i need a reel as well. Maybe your Amberjack Special and 665 will be enough. But can also include your Z4500 and Jigzam. I'll help you to test em out.....hahahahaha. |
