The strength of FG and GT knots

I tested the FG and GT knots I tied last week using Okuma Jig Giant PE5 (Should be the same as YGK jigman ultra X and also Whipsplash PE7 with JM FC #27 by pulling. For FG knots, the breakage using both lines was always about 55lbs. Burst at the end of the leader all the time. My GT knots burst at around 40-50lbs. Anyone gets higher breakage strength? Just want to know whether any way to improve the strength.

Hi, been using the FG/mid knot exclusively for about 2 years. I did notice that the optimum number of cross wraps is around +/- 15 depending on the diameter of the braid. Too little results in inadequate grip surface and too much prevents the grip from closing unevenly round the mono. Experiment a little. For whiplash pe3 and pe5 to 60 to 100lb soft mono leaders, I 'm using 15 and 16 wraps respectively followed by 5 half hitches - tighten - another 5 half hitches - tighten again - leave out mono tag end , then 10 to 20 half hitches around the standing braid (depending on mood) and cut off mono tag end. impt note: lines are heavily lubricated before tightening. tied properly, the braid should be the first to burst. Point to note is that the mono end will burst within the knot if it was twisted during the tightening process. An indicationof the mono twisting is when the finished knot appears to twist to one side. A correct tied one is always stiff and straight. - cheers

No i fish with around 18-20lbs drag set. Why?

Your knots already met your requirements, do you still need that much of an improvement? Would you agree that a good knot should be the simplest to tie as you may need tie it on board in a rocky environment and if your PE5 line holds up to 55ibs, i find it's pretty reasonable already.

Where did you line break while you pull test it? Main Line or at the Knot just after the leader leaves the hitches?

No. Whipsplash is 80lbs and Okuma Jig Giant PE5 is rated at 78lbs. They all break at about 55lbs at the place where the leader leaves the hitches. The reason I ask this is I am thinking to change to slightly thinner main line if I can improve the knot. Lighter line is easier to work with and I can have more line in my spools.
