Angry Shimano's Blue Rose B51SD broken anybody else

Hi Guy's,

It's been a long time since I joined in the forum....I hope you all are doing good & enjoying life : )
Yesterday fishing with some friends here in Bali ..a B51SD Blue Rose broke in my hands as I was trying to get my buddie's jig out of the coral ..the rod busted in 2....using a TN20 with the drag at about 7kilo's...i was applying steady pressure only ...no reefing or excess pressure....POP.... I was suprised to say the least ...had another guy with us who had experianced the same thing. The B51SD I been using for +- 4 years has been load tested to the max. without any problem other than the tippet ring falling out twice....
I heard that Shimano's orig. B.R. came from Japan & then they moved the factory to Batam ?? Maybe a change in Q.C. ?? Any idea's ??
Just looking for some feedback from anyone & wondering if those that have busted rods ever tried to get any "satisfaction" from Shimano ?
Thanx guy's ..tight lines & bloody decks, Aaron

Hi Aaron its been a while, how have you been? The SD is very high in carbon content and may require some TLC (No hard knocks etc) The SDs have been known to break for the longest time and is considered one of the most fragile in the entire BR family. Try the 5310/5315 or the 4810/4815 if you want more durability. They are really high in glass content and you can really pull as hard as you like.

Re: Shimano's Blue Rose B51SD broken anybody else

Hi Mike, Mark and the rest of the forum readers : )

Thanx for the great feedback ! You guy's know that out here in Bali we are in the boonies and not much info or new products or much selection of products comes our way : (
My buddie's rod broke at the front (top) of the 2nd guide foot .. looks exactly like yours Mark except 1 guide to the front.... Like you ..I wasn't highsticken...just steady pressure , getting line back untill we got over the jig....********* I looked close for any sign of abuse...however ,by then it was toooo late.... the stick was not crushed or deformed in anyway I could see...
I don't want to jinx myself , & hope I don't by saying this, but, my 51SD is holding up so far , apx. 3yrs ++ I think ?? Alot of fish....Maybe just lucky it hasn't broke yet ! ! I'm pretty carefull handeling it.... however it has been fished alot & lived...so far ...........
Mark fishin here has been ok, same ol same ol....however it seems there are some reports of coral bombing out around Batu Aba.....still some big doggies hangin around there though according to the free divers.
I am in the process of trying to put together a faster (ex police patrol) boat for myself here...I'll let you guy's know how she turns out...
Thanx again guy's for the info, I don't relly feel any better as I feel I got to replace the stick , however , I won't recommend that model to anyone else & Mikey thanx for the composition info ! Really good stuff ! !

Regards, Aaron
