Jason,

Jig Wrex (cheapo Batam made rod) can also land big dogtooth. No need those high hand tackle.

Maybe I'll use mine to target the Sharks.

Saw Stickbom's jigwrex.

Heavy line class rod but no underbind

If got underbind I sure buy...why do they bother developing a new blank but build it up without the underbind? Surely it wouldnt cost much more to add the underbind??

Some pple will say no need underbind but to each his own...

Thats where you are mistaken, the rod has underbinding. It is just that the underbind is made only at the feet of each guide. This is done instead of a full underbind across the feets of the guides to reduce weight even furthur...... making the rod easy to jig, yet still have protection against the guide feet.....

Hmmmm......In simple words, multi layer slit tape composite blank with progressive dual stage action......Simple terms it means high compressive strength, made of carbon and glass and some other stuff, 2 part action, one to handle the jig, prevent assist hook tangles, prevent hook throw outs.......second stage is progressive action to reduce stress on angler when fully locked up to a big fish....... hard to describe, people may think its just a load of @#$%.....and I dont want to say more as I may sound bias, but try it on an actual fish to understand it for yourself......

Thanks JigW,

Interesting. So different from B51SD/S53SD which is 100% carbon?

Can high stick?

51SD is a different rod all together in terms of action. The Super Dart has a extra stiff tip to impart action on extra heavy jigs......so they are very purpose specific rods...........JigWrex is a composite blank that is tough and more for all round jigging, as for high sticking...........well i guess it depends how high u do it Everything can break if used incorrectly, but all in all, I would say it is a very decent rod..........

All authorised Shimano dealers carry the stock, but stocks are quite limited at the moment. There are 5 spinning and 3 bait....

S508, S526, S605, S554, S5103, B526, B554, B5103.............First few numbers depict bait or spin and length, last number depict the PE line class....

As for the website, unfortunately there is none at the moment but that should be rectified soon....

I tried fiddling with the JigWrex's B5103 (think this model refers to PE3), a month back at TTC. It is a 2-piece rod and relatively light compared to the Blue Rose, and if I am not mistaken the weight is quite similar to one of Smith jigging rods. Almost fell off the chair when Doris quoted me $200+ for the rod, but unfortunately someone already booked it.

I feel it may be a nice combination with Jigger 2000P, but I am not too sure about potential play in the alignment of the guides for a 2-piece rod when fighting a fish. Lastly, are the SIC guides Fuji made?

Cheers

I guess you have to pull on the blank personally to see if you are comfortable with it.......So far for quite a few fieldtest that was done, the pe 8 was able to impart alot of hurt on the fish instead of the angler......in fact most of the fish came up pretty fast.

Personally I can load the pe8 blank easily into its proper lifting curve without much effort. Once loaded into the proper curve, you can then put as much force as you want on it, directly translating that to equivalent force on the fish, without the uneasy handling and tip over feeling of some other rods............

If however you like fishing lighter line classes for average size fishes and occassional biggies, theres always the option of the PE6, but if you are aiming mainly for big fish in rough terrain and need the backup of reserve power just in case a monster pops up, then I think the PE8 has more turning power to stop the fish from diving back into the wreck......

Does that mean the rods are out of stock?
