Shimano Horizon Surf Rod

Hi guys! Before I start. like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May GOD bless all of you with a bundle of joy and happiness with a very fat of luck for this coming 2007. Here, i would like to ask and get an opinion about the new Shimano Horizon surf rod coz' i'll be getting my blank over this weekend(already downpayment some). I would like to rung it for multiplier. How much ring should i put (ex. 7+1 or 8+1). For your guys info, i'm new with 3 pieces rod. So upon this, i hope that someone could shed some light to me about how can i go about this matter. Thanks!

Re: Shimano Horizon Surf Rod

Hi Tekok,

Welcome or wannakam to FO dude.

To me, having 7+1 or 8+1 guides on a surf rod does not actually make much of a difference although some guys claimed that the rod will turn softer and some said it will be stiffer.

To get the best out of your surf rod, guides spacing is in fact the most important factor. Since the Horizon Special are made from the same mandrel as the Spinpower, you can use the specs provided on the Shimano catalogues as a guide. The other thing to take note, will you use this rod strictly for fishing, casting or both? What kind of guides do you intend to use?

Regards

Hi Tekok,
I prefer to use low riders guides on the Horizon Special and have the rod builder to make use of 7+1 tip guides without touching the blank during load test.

Ensure that the stripper & choker guides are both on the mid section. The rest 5+1 tip will be on the tip section.

Hopes this helps.
