Juan... are you talking about a whole handle assembly or just an aftermarket knob? The Safari is a great reel, with or without a new handle. I kinda like the original handle actually.

The ones by SOM seems fine and I was told Anglers Hut can get them Aiya just use the stock handle lar... I really don't think anyone can break the stock handle unless you're winching the fish in.

btw guys,

anyone would like to share their experiences with safari?

on my last trip i had pair her off with calstar 760...it was a pain for me...i find that she has not enough power or whatsoever when i jig/bringing up a fish. is it the combination problem? or is it just me that i am a weako lol

but when i took over my friend's carpenter + saltiga6000...woooo...everthing was jus plain simple. smooothhhh...

jig used was 300g if i am not wrong.

The Safari has a low speed and high line retrieve due to its large diameter spool. Don't get me wrong but were you "grinding" the fish in? With the 760, you should be able to gain line pretty easily by lifting and winding down. Could you elaborate more on the "pain" issue? What kind of trouble were you having with the Safari?

i think i was grinding in line kekekeke but maybe the tip was so stiff that i didnt lower alot...thereby picking not enough line...

IF you're using a 760L, then the tip should be pretty soft Remember to lift and wind next time... I can assure you the Safari will not give you anymore "pain"

Hi Mikey,

Not if too much of the blank was cropped from the tip. "Circumcision" of blanks to supposedly "customize" the rod to specific application seem to be the in-thing these days

Hi Juan,

With regard to your comment on the possiblility of the 760L not having enough power, imho, I think it is a case of "too much" (lifting) power, rather than lack of it. To put it another way, the Calstar has a much faster action and hence lock up point compared to the Carpenter. The relatively slower action of the Carpenter rod is as such more forgiving on the angler and perhaps that is why you find it more comfortable using it. Not forgetting that a Saltiga 6000 probably has more cranking power compared to the Safari. Opinions differ of course.

Best regards,
Makaira
