| Qtns on Abu5000 Hi, i brought a Abu5000 recently but for this series what kinda fishing is it normally used for? it can be used to handle what species of fish? kinda buy without knowing its background another question, if my fishing rod ratings states that the line used is 8-17lbs, if i load a 20pounder into my reel will it damaged my rod? or shld i juz load a max 17pounders to my reel to go with my rod |

| Super Moderator | Personally I would prefer 1500-4500 for lure casting. 5000/6500 for light trolling/light inshore jigging. 7000 and up for bottom fishing/surf fishing. You can use 20lb line on that rod of yours for abrasion resistance but do not set drag according to 1/3 for 20lb test. It's safest to use 12-14lb test for a rod that's rated 10-17. Another issue that most new lure casters fail to notice, when you are casting light lures, say no more than 7g, your rod's lure rating should be 1/8oz and up. Not 1/4oz and up. Rod that handle 1/4oz and up works a lot better with lures over 10g. If you get the lure weight and rod action combo wrong, you will not be able to cast a lure far. Regardless of how smooth your reel is. |

| Super Moderator | Local fishing 10-20lb will do most of the time. |
