Woah, thanks for the pics dude. The machining looks awesome and I see AGs influence in the AR system. Do you know if it runs an AR Clutch Bearing?.... I'm sure someone answered this question in the past, but my memory isn't what it was these days... Given the main gear and pinion design and materials, I am not suprised that it is not quite as smooth or soft to crank as an OJ4000/5000, but it certainly should be in the Boss Magnum category. I like the chunky handle too, but the knob could be better and the screws in the drag plate surface could have been engineered differently(but then I'm picking hairs)... Hmmmmm.....Oh dear here I go again. Saimee

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: Pro Gear Oceanus 30 The box says 7 S/S bearings, no mention of an AR bearing ala OJ. The handle knob is a pain to grip, being smooth polished, hard solid AL. A T-bar is more ergonomic and the handle should be extended. But these upgrades are usually done on the more expensive 665, and no AR docking kit needed either! Not as smooth as the OJ - nothing beats them! Once the 2nd drag plate and handles are installed, this reel will be very nice especially at the price. |

| Super Moderator | Re: Pro Gear Oceanus 30 Hi Chris, other than Kingies, have you hit Hapukas and other bottom dwelling species with the Oceanus 30? Its probably 30-40% cheaper than a Jigger so I'm not expecting it to crank as well BUT on a scale of 1-10, how well would you rate its cranking ability? Would it make a good hybrid (jig/bait soaking) reel? Last edited by stickbom! : 04-05-2007 at 12:54 AM. |

I caught both Kingies and Hapuka with this reel and I think it is an excellent all-rounder. At the price, this reel should become popular. Currently, we sell the standard reel for NZ$450. I think the AG power handle & T-bar will add a further NZ$170 but they are not absolutely necessary, standard is still good. Fishing buddy have this reel for approx same price.

Imho, Pro Gear has to bear in mind that Accurate as a tried & tested twin drag system and the latest rendition of the Boss has incorporated an offset handle as standard so there is no further outlay to upgrade to a "better" handle unless one prefers to add a T-bar. Should be interesting to see how the OC develops and what level of after sales service they can provide for our part of the world. Like Saimee .... I am itchng to get one to try.
