Poor man Jigger

Guys, I just (finally) bought a Penn Baja Special While its not going to win any beauty contests, the reel gives me the impression that its a real workhorse. Line cap is about the same as a Jigger 4000 and its a reel you wouldn't mind knocking around Oh by the way, its less than half the price of a Jigger 4000

Ahhhhh... now I know where the "Other" reel went... Congrats on taking the final plunge on the Baja Mike.... Hey are the sideplates metal or graphite/plastic?.

Think its plastic Pretty much like the Tyrnos except narrower and star drag instead of lever drag. The lugs are reversible so it's pretty much like a Jigger without the two "ears". Going to spool it with PE8 this evening... before I meet Edros's Team IMF at Changi Village

Correction......Tyrnos still has a metal frame but has graphite side plates......Baja has graphite "composite" frame.......

Honsu mate,

Am pretty sure the Baja Special came with a one piece aluminium frame, but wasn't sure about the sideplates... This is the blurb from the Penn site

Special Senator®
Combining the toughness of the legendary Penn Senator® reel with higher gear ratios, the Penn Special Senator® gives serious saltwater anglers the best of both worlds; power and speed. Penn Special Senators are ready for your next challenge, whether trolling, casting large baits, or bottom fishing; whether trolling wire on the 113HSP, or standing at the rail of a tuna boat with the wide framed 113HLW or 114HLW.
  • Precision-Machined, Stainless Pinion Gear
  • Heat-Treated Stainless Steel Main Gears
  • Oversized, Soft-Grip Handle
  • One-Piece, Narrow, Open-Top Aluminum Frame
  • Five Aircraft-Grade, Sealed, Stainless Steel Ball Bearings
  • Powerfull Versa-Drag™
  • Chrome Reinforced Side Plates
  • Heavy-Duty Clicker
  • High-Strength, Graphite Rod Clamp
  • Corrosion Resistant
Regards,

Saimee

G4 good to see, nice to fish... but kinda harmful for the pocket I have 3 pistol grip BC rods and a Major Stick @ home. Already far tooooo many rods to use.

The Baja Special is less than $300

Hon-Su, even if the Baja Special had a clay frame, I'll have to learn to live with it. LOL
