Pocket Rockets

Dudes/Dudettes, whats the strongest baitcasting reel you've ever used? When I say strongest, it means-
  • High and smooth drag pressure (without any modifications)
  • Rugged and reliable for saltwater use (targeted fish not more than 5kg but may encounter fast swimmers or slightly larger opponents)
  • Must be able to cast plugs/jigs well
  • Must be star drag and not lever drag
Any inputs from the hardcore lurers/owners of such reels would be greatly appreciated!

To get the ball rolling, here's an old reel that I know which suits the bill- Ryobi Caspro Metal-Light

Re: Pocket Rockets

yeah I agree the newer ABU models with carbon matrix drags are wonderful little reels. ABU reels are one of the easiest to clean too!

Re: Pocket Rockets

In view of ur requirements, think Daiwa Millionaire Bay Area 200BB and the smaller brother Bay Casting Special 103 will handle the task very well..

I own both and like them very much.. 2 lovely reels.. if U uses it more for boat fishing, the Bay Area 200BB will better fit your requirements.. the longer handle and bigger knobs are delightful to use..

I uses the smaller Bay casting special more for my heavy luring needs, but is equally comfortable on the water..

check it out..

Dude is your initials V.P? If so then Mr LBB has told me all about your wonderful Daiwa BC reels. Did you add a Blacksheep 250 to your collection of Millionaires?

If I got the wrong person, sorry! Thanks a whole bunch for the input

hahahaha!!! you mean all this while you didn't know your ol' buddy Mike (same profession/office as LBB) is the notorious StickBom!? Ho seh... got another free cup of kopi! Can claim my free kopi at Changi Village?! LOL

Just curious, what rod did you pair the Black Sheep with? I heard you were looking for a really strong BC rod to match the reel sometime ago. Manage to find anything suitable yet?

Cool Re: Pocket Rockets

Yo Mikey .. I only knew abt ur identity as i read more on ur other post last nite.. ha ha... Silly me..

Couldn't find anything suitable for the Blacksheep off the rack.. In the end, custom a GUSA SW6'6ft 12-25lbs.. Excellent match .. Should be a good toman and heavy barramundi combo..

Perhaps will try it out on the Pla Buk when I'm next up in BSL in late april..

Wat bout U? Any thing brewing?? Stil waiting for U to lead me to Brunei for the Amberjack.. couple of new reels to try out.. ke ke..

Re: Pocket Rockets

hahaha... for Brunei you should contact Cpt Fred. He runs a charter and brings people out to the drop off for a pretty decent fee. I've met him for coffee once in Brunei and he seems like a pretty nice chap. For more details about Fred's operation check with 12345, he's Fred's field tester/sales executive/part-time deckie all rolled into one

Dude, if you need a Blacksheep to stop that Barramundi, it must be one helluva big Barra!!
