The Contender spinning reels have proven tough enough for hard fighting gamefish like longtail tuna.
Innovations in tackle are few and far between with most new products being the result of purely cosmetic changes to existing themes. When the design team at Pflueger decided to create a truly saltwater resistant spinning reel they threw away the rule book and initiated some genuinely, out of the square, concepts. The result of their intensive R & D is the Contender range of spinning reels. The visual differences from traditional design are immediately apparent. The body of the reel has been slimmed right down to a compact gear housing without unnecessary bulk. Most of the innovations however can’t be seen externally.

To eliminate corrosion the main gear has been coated with 24 carat gold. Saltwater resistant stainless steel and brass components are used extensively throughout the reels construction. Even the spool itself is machined from marine grade stainless, not alloy as in almost all other spinning reels.

Housed in the stainless steel spool of the Contender are impressively large drag washers.
In the field the oversized drag system has performed flawlessly even during very prolonged battles. Difficult customers like Spanish mackerel and large longtail tuna have been taken in its stride. The 7560 model holds enough 10kg braid to cope with most mid sized pelagic sportfish and has ample retrieve speed to trigger strikes on metal lures from the most indifferent tuna. If you need a spinning reel that is gamefish tough, look no further.

Dunno leh... Ang Mor Kia don't really go ape shit over drag rating... they more interested in knowing how long their spool can spin in freespool :P

BUT hor... you can see the size of that drag Pretty amazing for a reel with such a decent price tag. I might be ordering one as a X'mas gift for myself soon. Wish me luck
