NR2000P vs Saltiga Z30

Between this two, which one do you recommend? Planning to get one to pair with a PE 3-6 rod for medium to medium heavy jigging and bottom. Is the Boss 870N in the same league as these reels?

Re: NR2000P vs Saltiga Z30

Yes, Accurate Boss 870N can also be comparable to Z30 and NR2000P.

But Boss 870N is Lever Drag, while Z30 and NR2000P are both Star Drag.

jigging wise i dono as i don jig much. but medium heavy bottom, NN2000p Z30 might not meet the needs. Eg NR2000p is only max 7kg drag.

i dono how others would classify medium heavy, but personally my range would be ; drag btw 7-11kg for day bashing, 12kg above for nite bashing ( local n regional area).

( of cos depends on where u go )

Some ppl consider reels like 4000p/torsa/torium a medium or medium to heavy set. not a true heavy cannon yet. So u decide

I too a novice, so don quote my words for it..*cheers*

Re: NR2000P vs Saltiga Z30

Thanks to all for replying. Well actually I already own a 870N with 400m+ of 50lb whiplash (my 1st offshore BC reel) which I planned to use for everything whenener I go offshore but recently pocket and hand start itchy itchy liao

Bumped into this two beautiful and sexy shimano and daiwa reel during my jalan jalan and get to molest them a bit and now I am hooked! I am comtemplating between these two reels to accompany me for my day offshore fishing.

So before I pay the 'dowry' for one of these, what's your advice be in terms of "bang for the buck', durability and maintainability of these reels? What about daiwa Z40 or SA30 (with clicker)?

Re: NR2000P vs Saltiga Z30

If you going for medium to heavy jigging then both NR2000P & Z40 are good choice and both also good for medium heavy bottom fishing.

Of course in term of jigging Z40 with new power T-bar handle will be a better choice because the NR2000P handle tend to be a little bit shorter. Moreover NR2000P drag is on the lower side as compared to Z40 (max 10kg drag) however there is a lot posting quoted that Z30/Z40 not able to achieve the 10kg drag mark until the reel go into season condition :eek

If you are on the budget then NR2000P will be your choice as I last saw this reel retailed at about $680 while the Z40 with T-bar handle retailed as about $860.

Re: NR2000P vs Saltiga Z30

I just came back from AG Jigging Master just now. I would consider 870N is for medium jigging, i.e. to jig 250-300g jigs. For medium heavy, I use 665 Extra Narrow for 300-400g and heavy jigging, above 400g, 4000P or Accurate 665 Narrow. Someone told me about using Torsa 20 but I am not sure about it because it is very high speed and the shape doesn't seem to be very balanced for jigging.

I would group Z30 together with 870 Narrow and Z40 with 665 Extra Narrow. I was also tempted to get Z40 because of it's sexiness but after considering, I better save up for 2008 Stella SW10kPG and SW10kXG because I am tempted to try light jigging with spinning set and go into medium popping while sharing the spools.

I feel that no point getting OJ 2000P because of the 7kg drag since you want to use it for Medium Heavy. Do consider OJ 4000P, Accurate 665 Extra Narrow or Z40.

This is how I feel about the OJ2000P as well...it's not a small reel but drag wise a bit disappointing....870 改过 would be a sweet choice for a medium jig outfit

Hey Tan, post some pics from your "disputed islands" trips man!

cheers

Have you tested it? For my unmod 4kP, the reel cant produce aything more than 10kg when the spool is full. I believe it increases when the line in the spool is getting lesser.

Hi Mark, if you ever been to the trips with Taiwanese, you will know I have minimal photos. Everyone fish themselves, keep the fishes caught in their own icebox and nobody has a camera in their pocket. Sometimes the skipper take some pics if the catch is unusual but I never caught the biggest Amberjack or Dogtooth Tuna. Just like last weekend, I caught 3 AJ only and nothing more than 15kg.

The only pics i have are all here (only 2).

Did your guys ever wonder why nr2000p designed to have max drag at 7kg ? i believed all angling products went through a series of design study, testing and fine tuning before they released to the market so by modifying your reel may or may not have ill effect on it. If the reel can take only 7kg drag max by mod it to 12kg drag will any of the mechanism parts give way or wear down ? This one for you to find out and for me to know.

Re: NR2000P vs Saltiga Z30

well, agreed too. but when ppl mod, its not just simply changing e drag washer also, certain areas need to be taken note, certain other parts need to be change too to balance out. Also i believed alot ppl mod their reels to serve their style of fishing.

end of the day Of cos, we don mean to overmod the whole thing, till the whole shaft, gear cant take it .

Not sure about 2000NR but I know 4000P can take more than the maximum drag because you can lock the reel and pull till the 80lbs line burst when sangkut..
