Great news on the drag material!!!! Highly likely they are Carbontex I think. Perhaps finally some decent drags from Abu's without having to "mod"

Guys, don't you think the low profile baitcasters look extremely similar to Daiwas?????? Even the bailarm for the spinner looks a little like the Daiwa Air-bail. Maybe they have thrown in the towel & went the OEM route.

I suspect Daiwa might be asking a China based Co. to produce some of their lower end reels for them. All their newer, cheaper reels are made in China these days SO I will not be surprised if someone from that factory left and set up his/her own reel manufacturing co. and is not making oem reels for ABU. Better still... the new ABU's might be coming straight out from the same factory that's churning out Daiwas! LOL

I seriously doubt a company like Abu would dare to use an OEM manufacturer could possibly violate some proprietory designs of another "big gun" brand. The lawsuit that ensues will bankrupt Abu. It is entirely possible that both products can come out of the same factory, but the designs, I think not.
