I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for different makes with similar characteristics to this particular rod as far as length, jig weight etc are concerned.

There's only 2 rods that I know of with rods as slim and as strong as the Saltiga Hiramasa. Hots Fake Lez and Saurus G-Dom series. However, they cost significantly more than the Daiwa. You can actually consider the stronger, newer & shorter Hiramasa models like the 56HS?
