BIG MISTAKE!!!!! .......... The yellow hypalon or EVA will look like crap in no time & with frequent under the sun, the while blank will turn yellow from UV. Having said that, the new fangled Japo blanks my have better UV protection .......... or simply use it at night!!!

Hahahahaha!!!! Nothing to do with that dude ........ the only practical colour for EVA or hypalon handle is black, dark blue or dark brown (dark colours in general) ... even lighter blue, red or green, all which I have experimented with before really looked like a serious case of leprosy after extensive use. Try getting squid ink or fish slime/blood off a yellow handle ... oh I forgot ..... u don't use bait for soaking As for white blanks, like I said, perhaps because the Japo blanks are spray painted, maybe UV will not yellow it.

Hey Mak...

As for UV protection, now we know that we should also use 70+ Sunblock on our rods..... hehehehehe

I will "experiment" 'cos all this time I was just using plain old furniture polish....

P.S. Just kidding on the Sunblock side, I had a few white surf rods from Daiwa and they held up pretty well, but the problem was more that white really shows up any icky rust stains on the guide feet.... but the upside is that scratches on the blank don't show nearly as much as the black blanks...

I was just thinking the other day about spraying a coat of lacquer onto the spool of my my Kaikon just to put another layer of protection for my lazy habit of not reversing+washing my Spectra/Braid regularly... I wonder if it could work...

Regards,

Saimee

Saimee,

After you try, do let us know the end result . It will definately save you guys from stripping lines after a few trips..especially on those big game reels your crews are using.

Yo Saimee,

No Catch Report's from you lately? Landlocked at the moment izzit? Weather is still not that great anyways.... so just as well.

You very evil ..... sekali use the wrong Sunblock, it reacts with the epoxy, weakens the binding thread & the guides start popping off!!!

About the lacquer thingie, or even applying a coat of expoxy as some have suggested, my concern is that should there be a crack in the epoxy or laquer coating, it may result in more problems if saltwater seeps in via the crack & it starts to corrode from under the laquer / epoxy. I am actually not that diligent in taking line off & reversing/reloading braided either. It all depends on how often I am fishing through the season. With the application of CX or Reel-x prior to loading, I have never encountered any spool corrosion problems for a long while, sometimes for as long a a year before taking the line off. Regular maintenance like rinsing & washing the salt off after each trip is a must of course. As Physlo said, why don't you try it out & let us know the long term result

Best regards,
Makaira
