Bro,

Avet is one of the most smooth drag around....but have to "run-in" first.
Maybe can put some Cal's drag grease into the carbon fiber drag, but some advise not to cos can damage it.

I'm still looking for Carbontex drag material to replace all my reels

Cheers

Tan,

the diff are IS-A-NEW-MODEL

Tuna looks better than the old model and with rounder left side plate.
Comes with longer handle for better cranking.
Clicker on the top of left side plate.
Ball bearing are of better grade cos old batch got a lot of fail BB.

This is the old model:

Dude, man, tears in my eyes and yes the pair on the left are very nice indeed ...

htchng,

How is your EX, got anything big on it yet?. As far using Cals Drag Grease, I don't see why it would hurt performance as long as you use the 4 fingerprint method of application. I have used it on both my Tiburon SST-12 and my 665HXM.... no problems and was just experimenting anyway.

Using greased drags also has one other plus, the MX if I am not mistaken, does not come with a titanium drag plate, so it would be stainless steel and more corrosion prone. If you use the greased drags, this problem is reduced drastically for pitting on the drag plate surface.... my SST had really smooth drags but also had the drag plate corrosion issue, changed the drag plate, greased the drags and hey presto no more corrosion problems.

Bond,

Care to share your "Quiet Dog" mod for the SX?.

Regards,

DFM

Y'all take care now...

Yo DFM, I recently found some original Shimano carbon drag grease here in SG. If you need some let me know and I'll send you a bottle. Cheap cheap... about $14 only. About 3 times the size of FISHERMAN drag grease and same price. :P This grease works wonders for carbon drag washers. Can consider giving it a try.

By the way is Jerudong Park still operating

To have a quiet dog... just drown the damn gear in grease. HAHAHAHA

Stickbom,

Dude, thanks for the offer, if I get to Spore anytime soon, I will take you up on it just to add to my collection of weird and wonderful lubes (don't read too deeply into this statement )....

Jerudong Park is still operating but at a level and capacity that is a far cry from its heyday..... Hey does the Shimano Grease only work for Dartanium style washers or does it work on the HT-100 type too?.... I have been impressed with Cals Grease so far and use it as my main reel grease too... a bit like Penn Muscle but seems more stable.

As for the "fill gearcase with grease" mod for a quiet dog, have seen that tried a couple of times... but with stardrags, ahem, you don't just get quiet dog, you get drowned dog with drowned gears and super slick drowned drags

Hehehehe....

Regards,

DFM

Hi DFM,

like what Stickbom said, just fill the dogs and spring with heavy grease,
should lower down the volume...

Photo of dogs......need to open the cover first.
(this is a old SX model)

Cheers

A simple bearing is less than $10 (maybe even less than $5). Just look up the yellow pages for bearing dealers... in SG I always buy mine from Kian Ho Bearings.

Tan,

Congrats for your new reel! Wanna organise a trip to Karang Ngah or Rompin?

It seems to me that there is a problem with Avet clicker after long time usage. A friend of mine and mysel faced this problem on our avet reels.

Our clicker will turn on automatically when cranking .... I have bring the reel to DeepSea and still the problem persists. DeepSea said it is a known issue.

Cheers,
Edy

Edy, how dare you tell me got the clicker problem NOW too late for me to reject the reel...

Ya Edy, I'm thinking of K.Rompin for the Cermin, Ebek, Goldern Trevally... They will come in after the NE wind ended. Or you guys want to try for Karang Ngah? I will arrange for that...
