Avet SX

Guys, thinking of getting 1 SX with year end bonus. I may use this reel for light jigging, casting, light bottom, light trolling as well.

1. But heard that there is no anti-reserve for this reel and
2. there is some internal noise when cranking the handle.

So I wish to know whether without the anti-reserve, jigging motion affected or not? Some said without anti-reserve, it will be more powerful as some anti-reserve will jam when huge pressure apply on it. Last thing is how much does it cost? SGD 250?

wah... if one reel can do everything then don't need so many reel makers liao :P

Just kidding

SX can jig, bottom, troll but I doubt it's good for casting unless you know how to add magnets to the reel for cast control.

Stickbom,
TQ for the comment, recently want to reduce my tackle "size". Got too many rojak reels & rods due to excessive buying last time.
I normally do short term fishing trip like 1 or 2 days only so multi-purpose reel suit me. :P

I think this SX will suit the P.Tinggi/P.Sibu water area for bottom, trolling, jigging and heavy casting(if I can)

Hi Octo, you might be interested to know my friend landed an estimated 50kg Dogtooth at Spratlys a few years back and back then, they were still using the 1st generation SX. The new version has some upgrades which makes it a virtually bomb proof little reel.

By the way, the Dogtooth story isn't a hear-say thing. My friend was using a custom build rod I sold him and his photo is displayed at the Avet distributor's shop here in Singapore.

Thank you for your info. So surprise... . 50kg dogtooth don't play play man. Now I die die also want to get 1 of the reel . Do you know how much in SGD? Might visit to Beach Rd sooner...

By the way, how many lb line loaded in your fren's SX? I'm so surprise that such a little reel landed the 50 dogtooth. Ofcourse skill play an important role here...

Yo Oct
The best price for the SX is at Changi Pro Fishing aka Gina
Price at $270+ with warranty
Second is Sabre Tackle
Price at $270+ with Free TurfLine

Actually both shops are equally reasonable on the qoutation juz that see which shop U prefer......
Get the newer version as they come with power handle ....

As for the line cap..,SX can load in 300yrds of 30lbs Power Pro ....
SX runs on dogs system so it can actually take some abuse.....

For me this reel is robust ,cheap and fun and light to play as U can hold on to it the whole day....

Cheers
Jason

Physlo Bro
Why the reel is not in my list ,I cannot tell u...
Actually to be frank,I was attracted to this reel at first when I go for my first Tanjung Pinang trip......Small ,light and strong drag
But wat put me off is the lack of power for cranking up heavy sinker......
Yes at that time only with the short handle .......
That was when I am comparing the reel to Torium 20 which TunaHunter is using.....It cranked up effortlessly......Relieved!!!!
But then now the newer version of the SX has longer power handle and some change in gearing systems make it a better reel.......
However ,if U are using it for bottom fishing <80m ,its still ok and easy on the angler.....
But >100m ,then get a better cranking reel like Torium will be better.....
It also scaled down whether U like lever drag or star drag .......

So the choice is yours.....

Cheers
Jason

Thank you Dynaway & Jason,
$210 is very good price. Going to get 1 very soon Yes, I heard it is abit lack of cranking power. But I can't ask for more on this little reel.

Dynaway,
Ya, MXJ looks great as the narrow spool suit jigging purposes but it is a bit costly if compare to SX for $210. Last week went to FishingLine(JB) saw the MXJ but can't notice the tuna engraving on side plate. Maybe it is older version... Thank for your infor.

Hi Octopus,

I load my SX with 400 yrds 40 lbs Power Pro.
The one who caught the Dogtooth Tuna was using 30 lbs PP.(main page of Avet website)
For that price, its a very solid and good reel.(very smooth drag)
It can be cast if you can control well with yr thumb.
Yes, the dog is abit loud but I mod mine to almost silent

Make sure u get the new model with the Tuna on side plate.
Good luck and I'm sure u won't regret buying this reel.

Cheers
