Re: Avet SX 5.1

The latest generation Avet reels including the SX are very well built indeed. They have ironed out the problems with the 1st generation models and have improved the ergonomics.

As for the comparison with the Z30 and OJ1500, well these reels are star drags and I reckon they have a bit more drag to offer as well. Smoothness and cranking power wise, I reckon the Japanese reels still have the edge.

But you're right, the SX is both cute and strong and a lever drag too.

Re: Avet SX 5.1

thank ..
is some different at the Smoothness on Avet SX.
Smoothness ... is not a big issue.. like "LandRover" Vs 'Pajero'
hi hi

is it heavy duty like penn reel ?

do u think 30 lbs PowerPro and fit on 10/12Kg Expert jig rod / 10/12kg Xzogan ... is the best combination ?

i like it becouse ..it look very strong... then the price only half of the Z30..

Re: Avet SX 5.1

Hi.

Just got one of the blue ones. Was wondering if there are longer reel handles available for these reels. Will appreciate any information on this.

Cheers.

Re: Avet SX 5.1

Even before the improved models, someone I knew personally landed a VERY decent dogtooth @ Spratlys with the first gen SX so I reckon its a good buy

Re: Avet SX 5.1

gotten the blue one exactly bcoz of its "cuteness" but have not landed anything significant to test it yet. Feels really handy though, and I usually pair it with a offblow pe1.5-3. Look and feels "compatible"

Re: Avet SX 5.1

thank for all

hi, Sebby... if just the handle problems, is find.. if i get the reel (SX), i plain to custom made a special design handle for it..
but need to test the reels first, c is that suitable for amendment ?
must be heavy duty enought and strong .. must have a very strong gearing system and others component .
if no.. the longer handle will spoilt the reels..
hi hi ..

i being done it for Penn 980, penn 920, penn 940, Penn 10, Penn 4400ss, Daiwa Frams 4500J, Teams Daiwa Advantage 4500S..
if u want..i can post the photo for it... but some of the reels is not with me anymore..

hi ,stickbom ..
actually how big is the dogtooth, and it take how many time to fight with the dogtooth, is that still in control ... or already to the max of the reels ? .. i being play with the first generation (blue ) ...but never fight with the fish... the cranking power wise ...is some diffirent compare with Z30 and jigger ... but never play with SX 5.1 new model ... look like very strong ...

hi, layman ...
i think is a good combination.. u used PE line ? ...how many lbs ? and how many meter ?

Re: Avet SX 5.1

The Dogtooth Tuna was about the length of a adult human's height. TUN@ was on that trip so lets see if he can recall how long the fight took. If I'm not wrong it was under 20min...

Re: Avet SX 5.1

Mine is loaded with yellow tuf line, think its 20lb.

I sometimes pair it with a gusa 20-40 as well, for heavier local bottom usage. Lighter weight, so can hold on to them for a much longer period

Re: Avet SX 5.1

Most SX cannot get 9 lbs at strike and 14 at full....
So i have to add in one spring washer to get higher drag.
It's my favorite reel.

Cheers

Bond, care to share where you add the spring washer? I might need to do so in order to get more drag power.

Yes, it is the SX and the picture is still at Deepseas. If you happened to be at Deepseas the pic with the guy in grey pullover and 58kg Dogtooth Tuna is in the behind the showcase.

Cheers

sorry .. i dont have scale to test the drag in kg ... according to my testing experience .. if full drag ...it can almost get double the original drag ..
but u need to add in one more washer before the (())... about 0.2-0.3 mm

but i feel over load to the reel already ..it may spoilt the bearing and main shapp and grear ...Expecially the main shapp .. it too small at the drag setting side ..

so ... i tune it untill 50% more drag only ...

change the setting from ()() to (()) ... you need to very carefull to the drag setting .. drag may increase very fast from 0 to full ..
