Hi David,

Don't master lah. We are simply fishing enthusiasts sharing information & experiences

The price you have for the GF755XH is about right. AA good substitute at a more reasonable price is the T6455 or 6460 series. That blanks should not be more than S$150 if my memory old memory have not failed me. IMHO, the full glass blanks may be more forgiving on the angler & perhaps more suitable for bottom bashing.

As for the wide reel, it is something you have to seriously think it over before committing hard earned money on it. There is nothing worse than spending a bomb on something & end up finding it not suitable. You may also end up looking a little silly having to end up putting on the harness for every fish you hook up or even when cranking up heavy sinkers from a deep drop! Not forgetting laying line on a wide spool reel can be a real chore at times!!!

Best regards.

is the EX4/02 same size as accurate 665HXM? if yes then i shall go for the EXW as i have no choice d.... if the EX4/02 is bigger than the accurate 665 HXM then i will just go for the ex 4/02

Hi David,

Based on the specs, the EX4/0 2 has a 40# mono line cap of 400yds, 100yds more than a 665. So it is indeed larger.

In terms of cranking power, you can grind a 665 4:1 with the setup in the rodholder with no problems. It is even easier with the aftermarket offset handle

On the flipside, you will need to pump & wind the EX while on the high speed by virtue of the fact that is has a larget diameter spool & therefore requires more torque power to wind it (me no engineer so I don't know of torque is the right term ) On the low speed, the reverse is true i.e. too much torque & therefore unless you are on high drag, simply cranking without pumping will simply result in the drag slipping & therefore no line is gained. Pump & wind is the rule of the day again.

Hope you can understand what I am rambling on about

Best regards,
Makaira

Sifu Makaira.... 100yrds extra don't really serve any purpose.. especially my required line is 80lb braided OR 100lb braided. my 665 6.0:1 is spooling 400M of PE6 Zenaq jigger trust line and it's meant for jigging only... what about ATD-12? is EX 4/02 same size with ATD12? i've seen ATD12 and if the size is almost the same as ATD12 then i will go for EXW ....

Hi David,

100 yds is 40# mono. That should translate into considerably more spectra depending on the diameter of the line you are planning to use.

ATD12? It will cost up to 3 times the price of the Avet 4/0. Probably smaller line cap than the Avet 4/0 narrow. Go for it if you have the $$$ to burn .... but go for the ATD30 Opinions differ of course

Best regards,
Makaira

Hehehehe....

Makaira,

You are a bad, bad man :P

David,

Here are my 2c. I have both a 665HXM and an EXW4/02. The other day, I was loading a new load of JB Spectra 80lb onto my 665 after having lost about a 100m due to a bad sangkut incident. I was loading the remainder of a 1200m spool that had initially been used to refill my EXW. By my rough reckoning (and this is rough) I only had just over a third of the spool left after I filled the EXW, which probably means that the EXW swallowed some 700+m of 80lb JB....

So, I reckon that the EX can take at least 500-600m of 80lb Spectra, but of course this is subject to the diameters of individual brands of spectra lines. IMHO, the EX should be just fine for bottom fishing depths of up to 500ft, which should cover most bottom bashing applications you intend it for in this region. Have you ever fished over 500ft?.

If you are based in Singapore, why not go to Deep Sea and look at the reels?. I am sure that they have an EX and an EXW. When I first handled both reels, I almost got the EX instead of the EXW. On hindsight I reckon that the EX was probably a better choice for bottom bashing, although at that time, I had YellowFin Tuna more in mind .

As for the rod choices, as Makaira pointed out (and which I failed to make clear), the prices I quoted were for completed rods with a minimum of all Sic guides or all roller guides. Check with your rod builder in KL whether he will be using genuine Sic Fuji Guides for your rod. There are many "other" Sic guides on the market which upon cursory inspection look the same but are not in my opinion as properly constructed as the Fujis.

As for the ATDs, well.... they are loooovveeeelllllyyyyy reels, but they are also premium reels which I reckon are a tad overkill for bashing groupers with, even XXL Groupers... (Warning: "someone" might disagree hehehehhe).

Regards,

Saimee@DFM

P.S.: Dude, that sifu stuff just ain't right, I'm clueless compared to some of the old hands I fish with who have caught Marlin on handlines....

DFM bro... i assume JB 80lb braided has the same diameter as power pro? i wish i am in Singapore now... but i m in penang... EX: 40lb-400M / EXW: 40lb-600M according to makaira sifu 100M of 40lb mono worth of line cap. shud at least = 150M of 80lb braided so if that's the case... EX narrow wud take 500M of 80lb Power Pro......... which is good enuf for me... something concerns me is that i've seen ATD12 in real life size... and according to accurate web site ATD12 can easily take up 350yrds of 80lb spectra WITH 250yrds of 40lb MONO... and IF we were to remove the 250yrds of 40lb mono and filll up with 80lb spectras that will give us another 125 yrds of 80lb spectra and THUS the conclusion will be:
EX = 80lb spectra 620 - 630Yrds
EXW = 80lb spectra at least 750 to 800 yrds
WAH!! EX will do then....

David,

Yup, that sounds about right dude, told ya my EXW swallowed over 700m of JB80. And I think JB is a little thinner than Power Pro or am I confusing it with Tufline XP.

Anyway, look dude, go save some money, get an EX, with the money you saved, get a good harness, some Fluorocarbon or some other goody.

Regards,

Saimee@DFM

DFM bro.. y do we need fluorocarbon at the first place?? to tie hooks or leader?? big game hooks oredi got... spent over S$100 just for the gamakatsu hooks... ranging from 7/0 to 12/0

makaira... got the narrow... darn lucky man... the EX narrow already swallowed 500Meter of 100LB whiplash WITH plenty of space left for easily another 150M ... if i were to put in 80lb god knows how many braided can the babe swallow...

David,

Glad it all worked out for you and that you like the reel. Just remember to adjust the preset for the drag properly, with 100lb braid and a big fish, max drag could be quite an experience.

Regards,

DFM
