If a user neglects to Lock-out the tailcap and the light is inadvertently activated causing the temperature to becomes excessive, the automatic temperature control feature cuts the LED power by 50% (a 30% light reduction), allowing the temperature of the Gladius to gradually reduce. The light will continue to emit light at useful levels.
