In short - I was seasick on the days (recovered during the evenings when we anchored). The waves were pretty big on the 1st day. The 2nd and 3rd day were fine. We (in the day, that means my friends because I did not fish at all during the days) did not use any bait at all and were all jigging up to 130m depths but nothing exciting. In the nights however were a whole different ballgame. There were yellowfin boils on the 2nd early morning where we landed YellowFin Tuna after YellowFin Tuna using light jigging and even casting. Each was around 5kg - 8kg. Plenty good fun on 12lb tackle and a light 80gm jig. Personally, I got 15 of them. Most were released. The 1st evening, we had a run of dogtooth tunas. I got a 10kg Dogtooth Tuna on 12lb tackle and a 60gm jig. Personally, I got 4 of them dogs and a few big eye jacks. one of my kakis got a ~20kg GT on a Stella 3000C and a 12lb rod! Talk about a good fight. I lost 3 due to leader bust offs (when the fish took very near the boat and dived under the hull) The final and 3rd evening, we had a run of yellowfin tuna and big-eye jacks. My personal tally was 8 fish (7 jacks and 1 YellowFin Tuna). Most fish were released, including the tuna. All in all, a nice trip if not for anything, for the awesome company and thank goodness for the light tackle action! -zeck |
