Most of the time, I will try to release the bugger.....Easier say than done cos of the bloated stomach....
Anything above 8kgs will taste like rubber or like cardboard....Might as well release it.
Unless its the famous greeneye , then its worth the trouble to take back home....
Cheers
Jason
well like wat u mentioned easier say than done..most don survive after release.
Not green eyes, release back also mati.
BUt will u bleed it first, i mean if its a green eye.. to keep it fresh ?
I ever saw one groupper one side green 1 side not leh.. *transformation half way kana caught.. *
Dono wat happen to the fish in the end..
If the grouper with bloated eyes and stomach means no chance to release it.....
But if with just bloated stomach or throw out bladder, got a some chance for release..
But will need a lot patience and time....
1) Poke the bladder and push it back in will sometime helps.
2) Use a heavy weight and barbless hook attached to handline to bring the fish down to the correct depth.( Learn from the Aussie release for Samson).
But I believe the most sensible way(Knowing that the fish u caught U intend to release) is to play and slowly pump the fish up in order for a proper release.....
This is my usual practise.
