I've got a size 3500 reel + a new lure rod waiting to be tested out... any stocked pond with lots of fish over 5kg lurking around to recommend

give you a clue... figure this SUWW out and you'll find lots of over 5kg species...fishes there is a sure thing but just that if you got the guts to fish and if you got pocket deep enough to kena summon by them...

BTW, went fishing this morning but too bad didn't had the luck to catch any Pacu but did however, managed to catch 1 fresh water catfish ard 4kg, 3 patin ard 2.5 - 3kg, some small koi, some small Haruan ard 500g.. but all are still under 5kg hence not suitable for your test drive

Mikey,

Just tested a new pond that is scheduled for opening in January.

You need a decent drag on your reel to stop the GTs in this pond. There are plenty of other species in this pond and they all fight much better than any pond I've tried.

Went for a trial last week and was told the GTs there take poppers with gusty. Was rather doubtful but on the 1st cast at a school of GTs resulted in instant hook-up. These fellas are dirty players like their wild cousins as they head straight to pylons and structures around the pond.

You'll probably need to use 20lb line with a 4000 reel with a good drag to stop these GTs but you'll still face problems when the biggies (around 15 to 20kgs) take.

The guy who runs the pond has stocked it with an assortment of other species - so if poppers don't work, rubber lures definitely will.

E-mail Eduard and get more info from him if anyone is interested.

haha ... you meant now? hehehe i just got back from surf casting at "pier 20" but we did not land anything and ended up having fish porridge at chinatown.

I am interested with the GT pond ... lets do it together one of these days.

Ever seen a 5-6kg garoupa jump more than a feet out of water?

I saw it in this GT pond, it was trying to snap at the popper but missed.
Was hoping to see a repeat of this stunt but after numerous non fruitful cast to the same area, I gather that seeing it once was already a great bonus.

Yo guys, I just got off the phone. Had a good talk with fish lover Eduard. From the short conversation, I got to know that Eduard isn't out to make a profit from this new operation and merely to cover cost of running a C&R pond

. Eduard told me that non-members to the pond can only book 3 days in advance and members can book a week in advance. That sounds like non members have to fish week days most of the time, at least for the first few months after the pond opens. THEREFORE, I can confidently say that I WILL NOT be fishing at the pond anytime soon.

Oh guys, according to Ed, the pond is stocked with GT up to 20kg

Remember to bring the BIG GUNS if you're going to fish there

Mark, I broke two Daiko TRV (Type R/one spin & one bait) some years back. Both rods broke in the same area so no point making a claim if it's a manufacturer's design fault. Also broke a Daiwa Procaster Z Interline before... never claim, repair myself

Sometimes too much hassle to change and not cheap too

Only one rod I claimed warranty cos my friend broke it and offered to pay for the warranty claim
