Lightbulb Swivel "tots"

I wonder if these ever came across in ur mind. e very impt Swivel.
Which works best for u, which don.

locally there are many brands u can find..eg individual shops own self pack type, Yozuri, Explori,...blah blah n of course Japs made.

would u chose by the brand or cost or thru recommendation. Quote u one example, u noe this days brand like berkley swivel. brand itself is U.S but is now made in china. one bag of think 8-10 (cant really remember ) stated some 40-60kg strength but cost only SGD 2-3.. would u buy? its pricing is not much diff from brands like pioneer..etc just e brand diff . better QC ? hmmm....

Then came another range of 2-5 a pack but cost btw SGD 4-8 or more. does tat means its better...?

some says e.g " japan one gd..thus X,

i really hv some doubts. mayb most of us are too immersed with e fact ..more $ stuff is better stuff.. :P I wonder is there some sort of Swivel strength reviews article..

Perhaps all these swivel stuff is actually cheap in production cost, just tat after mark up n due to brand..then came the price diff.

so which would u chose..

I personally feel that there are generic swivels that just get repackaged and renamed.

I have used a few well known brands that have failed and also the simple nickel plated brass barrel swivels that have held up surprisingly well. Even the big names have QC problems and you can run into a bad batch.

There are 3 basic forms of swivels we usually see; Barrel Swivels, Crane Swivels and Ball Bearing Swivels.

Barrel Swivels are those where you can see the twists in the wire used to close and form the eyes.

Crane Swivels have no twists, the eyes are formed and terminate in circular heads that reside in the barrel body of the swivel. They are generally shorter than the barrel swicels.

Ball bearing swivels have eyes that terminate in separate bodies that have a ball bearing that resides between the mating surfaces and ensure smooth twisting of the eyes. BB Swivels offer the smoothest operation, but also require more maintenance than the other two types.

However, I have seen even the much vaunted Sampo BB swivels fail, in the end its part of the game.

I have had a cheaper brand of ball bearing swivel rated at 40kg test break on a 10kg Baracudda on its first time out.... The reason I know it was a 10kg Baracudda, is because I rerigged with my tried and tested Owner crane swivels and caught the same fish complete with the broken swivel still hanging from the wire leader in its mouth.

What is important is to check the swivels you use, regardless of the brand. Pull the eyes apart hard and rotate them. High quality swivels will always rotate smoothly, lesser quality ones will feel rough or bumpy. But the biggest test is how they perform after being in the water a few times.

Pay attention to the finishing too, especially black swivels. If you compare the finish of owner swivels with the cheaper ones, there is a lot of difference, but you will only see it close up. The quality of finish is a good indication of how long a swivel will last and do its job properly. The good ones will last a whole season.

So try what seem to be good. If they work for you keep using them. If they don't, try something new.

Regards,

Saimee

Tightline M'sia (U-Bob) compared the smoothness betw China and Japan ball bearing swivel 2me b4. Both using 600g sinker tie to steel pipe with mono lines, i'm the one who turn the sinker, China swivel stopped within 40 sec but Japan swivel after 2 min still rotating.
