Smooth Drag

Guys,
Do you heard of the smooth drag: http://www.smoothdrag.com/

I heard that Sabre tackle got this product. Does anybody upgrade with it? I just wish to gather more info then decide whether want to upgrade on my O-Jigger3000P or not.

My friend tested for me, the reel can go to 8kgs of max drag. Sometime 8kg meant nothing for those giant even the line capacity can loaded in 500yd 50lb power-pro.

Your Jigger 3000P must have been an earlier batch because the new Jiggers (NR/4000/5000/EV) have pretty decent drag power on them. My old Jigger 2000 had weak drags too and I got it upgraded to Smoothies. Sabre use to carry Smooth drags for the Trinidad but I'm not sure if they still have it now. It's a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

Yape, my O-Jigger is older model with max drag around 7kg. That why I might need to upgrade the drag interm of higher drag & smoother drag...

How much & where did you upgraded your reel to smooties?

Does any one got Sabre tackle tel no?

I just called Sabre, they have smooth drag but they dont have the size for Ocea Jigger.

Have you actually opened up your Jigger to check the drags?.

It could be that your stock drags have been over greased at the factory.

Unless you have done this before, be very careful when taking off the star wheel, since there is a tiny pin and spring (acts as a clicker when you turn the star) that sits in a hole in the handle shaft. It will fly out and be lost forever unless you are careful and cover the star with a cloth or your hand whilst opening it.

You should be careful when opening up the drag stack too, since the stock dartanium drag washers are very fragile and brittle, try to genty slide them off the metal drag washers, do not pry them off. If they really stick, you can spray the whole lot with brake or carb cleaner and they should come off more easily.

As for the smoothies, results from the US indicate that only the Extreme Smoothie washers upgrade is worth it. You can use them dry or with the faintest application of Cals 2 Drag Grease (you can get it from AO). I have tested the grease in an old Jigger 3000 with a rebuilt drag stack using the stock dartanium washers and the results have been very good, with 10kg of drag possible. Same goes for my Kaikon 4000.

Hopefully, very soon I will be getting hold of some Carbontex washers from Jack Erskine in OZ, which I really look forward to testing. I hope that these will be the ultimate washer material for my kind of use.

Very thank you and informative on your post. I actually not dare to open any reel since I only good at dismantle reels but I can't assembly them back . A friend of mine did open up for me and degrease it then apply a think layer of gear grease on it then it become around 7kg of max drag.

The reason why I'm thinking of changing the drag washer are, I want some higher drag so that I can handle bigger fish since it can be loaded 500m of 50lb braided line. Don't wish to waste thousand for another reel. 2nd I want the drag to be smooth even in higher drag pressure. That why I think of smoothies... When the reel almost reach it's max drag, it starting some "jerky" actions... where the line goes out 1 second stop for 1 second...
Do you had any experience of this scenario?

Really thank you for your input. Seem like I have to move on other drag washer like extreme smoothies or Carbontex washers. Kindly update us once you tested the Carbontex washers.

The amount of grease you apply is really, really, very little. Just think of 3 very faint fingerprints of grease on each side of the dartanium washers. If I got the time, I'll take a quick photo of how much of Cals Drag Grease I use on the washers in my Kaikon. Even a little bit too much grease will make your max drag drop drastically.

I've purchased Carbontex Washers from Jack Erskine, here's the link to his website, http://www.jackerskine.com. You'll probably have to provide the OD, ID and thickness of the washers u need.
