Shimano Stella 08 (10K,18K, 20K)

Hi guys,

Need your help. I've just had a look at the new stella 08 and looking forward to buy one from SG as soon as possible. I don't have much time as I have family travelling soon and I need to grab the opportunity to purchase.

Shimano Stella

Which one should I buy for popping? I was looking for a 10K size for shore popping on the reef working 100g poppers and doing some trolling with it offshore.

Definetely need to go for a Extra high gear XG, but will the 18K spool fit the 10K. as anyone read reports yet if these spool interchange?

The 18K PG as well look tempting to me but with 200g on the plus is making me think twice?

Any suggestions?

I remember you had a spare 16K spool + a spare handle when Buying the revious version of the SW 10K HG. Do you get any spare spool and handle when buying the new 08 version?

About how much is it selling in Singapore. I'll try to avoid parrallel import and favors buying it from TTC.

Hi,
He are some answers to your questions......

1) The new SW is yet to be released for sale, so you cannot get it immediately as yet.

2) The 18k and 20k body size are the same, the 8k and 10k body size is the same. The 10k size reel will not accept the 18k spool.

3) The reel does not come with a spare spool or spare handle knob.

4) Most decent GTs can be landed on a 10k size reel or even a 8k using PE8 and below, except if you are fishing in extremely rough terrain whereby you either stop the fish immediately or chance getting reef. The 18k will be good if you specifically fish PE10 and up consistently on such terrains; while the 10k will be best for PE8 and below for most other locations. With the use of 100g poppers, I presume you will be using PE 8 and below as you probably cannot cast 100g poppers far on >PE8. So the excess capacity on the reel is not needed and you would enjoy and have more stamina to fish longer with the lighter 10k. Add to that most of the higher grade PE lines now offer higher breaking strain and a PE 8 line now can have up to 120lb strength.

IMHO, the 10k will be more suited to your needs.

Re: Shimano Stella 08 (10K,18K, 20K)

Hi,

Thanks for the valuable feedback. I think I'll go for a 18K as this wil suit boat popping and jigging as well.

If you are going to go for jigging as well, you will probably do better with the 20k PG, the 18k is a HG and will be harder to do under the arm jigging, unless you primarily only do in the belt long stroke jigging....

Cheers

Thanks for the pointers. I heard I'll have to wait until towards the end of the year to purchase the reel. I'll make my mind up until them.
