Recommendations- heavy duty bottom stick for 1kg to 3kg sinkers

Yo fellas,

I'm determined to do some heavy duty local bottom bashing this year so need some recommendations on an appropriate XXH bottom stick. Looking to build a heavy duty bottom stick for 1kg to 3kg sinkers. Will be used only for bottom, no trolling. Thinking of a Calstar 755XXH...will this blank take a 3kg sinker?

Thanks!

Fret not! I'll get Ah Bee to answer your question and give you some good suggestions.

...although I thought something similiar has been discussed before already .....

Dude ....... I think this thread covered a lot of ground on this topic

http://www.fishingouting.com/forums/...ck-needed.html

My vote would be for the GF760 Series. If you prefer a slightly longer rod, check out the GF765 series. How heavy a rating you want is your choice. If it is mainly for local bashing using no more than 65# braided, imho the GF760L would suffice. If you are more adventurous, the next model up is good. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mak,

I've got a 765L and 760L both uncropped but unsure if they can tahan 2kg+ sinkers Don't wanna pair this rod with a 50W reel either...just looking for stick with a stiffer tip to take heavy leads...a 760M sounds nice.

cheers

Hi Mark,

Those 2 sticks (uncropped) will handle 2-3kg sinkers with no problems whatsoever. I use them all the time for such applications. What u need is an appropriate "winch" to crank up the sinker when checking baits!!

Actually, imho, what u want is not a stick with a stiffer tip. What is more important is a blank with a strong butt section & good lockup to "tahan" the sinker while waiting for the hit. And when the hit comes, the rod has the backbone to set the hook. That is why Calstars are my preferred bottom rods. I also find that soft(er) tip is actually much better even for heavy duty bottom bashing as it is sensitive to the tiniest of bites. Opinions differ of course.

Best regards,
Makaira

MarkR,

Dude, you do have a Jigger 4000P lying around that would make a nice winch, albeit without a clicker.....

Rodwise, I reckon your 760L is just fine, but a 760M is possible too, I have had one built for a friend, for pretty much for the same purposes you intend. I will stick to my GF755H sticks and see how the GF410 shapes up.

Regards,

Saimee

Thanks guys for the recommendations and the replies via PM, much appreciated

DFM, is the GF410 a fast-actioned blank?

Mark,
If the Jigger 4000P cannot tahan the weight, I've an unused ATD50, bought a year ago, lying in the drawer collecting cobwebs. Can sell you cheap cheap.
Cheers

Hello Professor Lim!

Think an ATD50 would be a major overkill for my current bottom bashing aspirations but i'm sure the many Accurate fans and apologists on FO would be more than willing to take it off you cheap cheap...

"Not Bling enough"..... rayer:

ROFL!!!!....you guys kill me man.... Mak/TmLim if I ever figure out the location of the cow YellowFin Tuna honeyhole around here, I'll know who to call to get a pair of 50s.....

MarkR dude,

I understand that the GF410 is not as fast actioned as the usual Grafighters.... I have pulled on the blank and it seemed a bit more parabolic, but with a 30-80 rating, I am hoping for a GF760L type rod that is only 5ft long without cutting off anything. Drop in and see Benji, there should be a DFM GF410 Psycho Lite II in construction....

I will not sell you cheap cheap, but loan to you FOC. That is, on condition you must post your CRs and illustrate how much ‘pains’ you can inflict on the 50.

Brada Lim,

Now that is an offer I will keep in my diary...... As for the CRs, no problem, the problem is that I can't find the &**^$##!!!! fish , but I shall keep trying & searching dude. As for the 'PAIN'.... I suspect that with my couch potato arms and dodgy back, the pain will be going entirely one way...i.e. my way......

CB dude,

That blackie ATD 50 sure would look cool in your boat rack.... My regards to the good doctor..
