The airfare is a killer though.....if only it was cheap like to Bali....
Thanks ChrisT. Is that the only charter there? Got to agree that the airfare is abit on the high side. Must start planning and saving liao.
DCheng,
I understand that by mid-2007 that there could be 3 or 4 professional sportfishing charters based at christmas island. Shorefire is one of the fishing outfits that has reinitiated operations. I gather that there will be another aussie outfit and a half japanese owned operation that will start operations pretty soon. Like to add that the Japanese run charter is solely a jig and pop outfit, no trolling.

Thanx for everything. Contacted them already. Hope to fish there next year.
Looking for help again.
Lost touch with the local tackle scene after much time being spent overseas. Appreciate some help on tackles issue.
Was looking for Sevenseas products but getting direct from Japan is expensive due to freight.
Was told by them that they do not have a agent or distributor in asia so does anyone knows where to get their products like locally or in Malaysia?
HI Edy,
Thanks for the info.
Just to ask again, are they the agent or distributor for Sevenseas or parrallel importer? Reason for asking is due to warranty issue for the rods. Was told rods from Sevenseas comes with warranty.
Sevenseas rods brought in by DeepSea comes with standard warranty from Sevenseas.
But I was told while chatting with Matsutani himself via Skype as provided in his website and he has re-instate that he has no agent or distributor for his products in Singapore. But the freight for just a rod, few pieces of jigs and other things is too high to order from him direct. Maybe I'll make a stop over in Osaka to hand carry before heading back to work next month.
Btw I went down to FB last night as someone mentioned to me they have sevenseas rods. But they are the export models and spec are totally different. Do you know what's the difference between the export and customised?
Model : Tunamania 505 (5'05") and Tunamania 58 (5'8")
Well, I guess there is no sole-agent or sole-distributor for Sevenseas products in Singapore- Angler's Hut sells hooker jigs too. I don't think any shop in SG claims that they are agents for Sevenseas products.
Anyway, Deep Sea does import genuine JDM Sevenseas rods, jigs and apparel. I have liaised with the Sevenseas shop in the past and they have said that it was ok to go through Deep Sea to place an order for a customized sevenseas rod (I was looking for an older less common NM model).
I won't want to hazard guesses about export Sevenseas rod models and blanks because these don't seem to be listed on the Sevenseas website.
What's your real concern anyway? Some apprehension over purchasing a genuine Sevenseas product in Singapore or are you more concerned with stock and availability issues?

Stock and availability is one thing and it's funny to find 2 different model for Tunamania here.
You are right, no listing on sevenseas website when browsing it.
I saw your posting on sevenseas blank, is it true to be able to get it here?
Hi DCheng,
The next time you meet Matsutani on Skype just ask him whether there are export models and if he sells blanks. He would be the best person to answer all your questions. Pls post his reply on FO coz some folks here would like to know the answers too!
Cheers
Thanks for all the info.
See whether can get hold of him today.

Hey Mark,
The Sevenseas Export Models originated from me, they are genuine Sevenseas Rods designed specifically for the USA market. I told him I need their rod without fancy decorations in order to lower the price for US market.
As such, they are basically Sevenseas rods without butt wraps at a lower price designed for the US market; thats why the "Export Model" print on the rod. It carries warranty like any other rod you get from Sevenseas.
I hope that would clarify this issue.
