My Mood:  Rep Power: 3  | Leaded or unleaded for you? Have you guys tracked the prices of lead sinkers nowadays? I was quite surprised by the increases - over 50% in some shops! Makes me wonder if the humble lead element is that rare nowadays. We should start looking for alternatives; if the petrochemical world has bio-ethanol & bio-diesel to compete with it, what would be the alternative for lead? Spark plugs and stainless steel nuts & bolts ?? Cheers, Sunburned |

My Mood:  Rep Power: 4  | Stainless steel is too expensive for sinkers dude... BRC or the scrap iron rebar used in construction is good, if you can get eyes welded on them. Plus, a long cylindrical shaped sinker sinks faster, drifts less in the current and doesn't snag so easily. Down side of rebar is rust stains.... Saimee

Rep Power: 4 | How about using (used) condoms filled with sand? Its a virtually free alternative, and at the same time is a good way of recycling otherwise useless spent condoms............. |

Rep Power: 0 |  Hi Sunburned, You can also try Araldite-ting wire loops to anything heavy you can find - stones, rebar, etc. You should also add a swivel to the wire loop if the weight is irregular in shape, as it is more likely to spin in the water. Best that this type of sinker is not used for surfcasting unless you are really confident in your araldite glue  This is one of the most environmentally friendly method of making sinkers.Cheers, Clarence |
