    Hi Shine

    Did you mean Jemudok?

I have never heard Jemulat before

Or maybe it is Jemudok + Bulat ? They call it Jemulat? j/k

    Re: jemulat

The 'Jemuduk' is actually the Orange-spotted Trevally. They look exactly like the Bludger a.k.a. 'Bulat'. And at times, especially during their feeding frenzy - it's hard for us to tell them apartBut when the frenzy dies down and when you sort out your ice-box (I wish) ...look closely, the 'Jemuduk' has orange spots - more prominent in juveniles and fade off as they grow..
'Jemuduk' tends to have a little longer snout.
Bulat are bludgers fondly termed by Indo & Jemuduk by Malay'sian. Both are similar in nature but without any traces of spots be it orange or brown sometimes.

The one with spots are called Rintik in Mal'sia and but in Indo its affectionately name Bulat Rintik.

Big eye trevally is Cupak. GT is Sagai but in West Mal'sia especially around Tukun Perak waters they're known as Gerpoh.

In the pic attached is supposed to be Jemuduk but in TP they are called Bulats Aka Bullets....
The fish that kick started my Jigging Passion with a little help from Mikey....

    Hope this helps....

    Cheers
    Jason

    Re: jemulat

    Hi shineshy,

Most Trevally species fight wells when caught on the right tackle class.

As for the taste, I feel only the Sagai, Chermin and smaller species taste well.

Bulats and Jemudok are simply tasteless in my opinion.....But there are pp who likes them....

    Cheers
    Jason

    Re: jemulat

Sagai is the 'diamond trevally' and I personally think its the only one trevally that's really good eating and I am with Jason in steaming it.. whatever style lah.. the meat is damn fine....

Other trevallies are really tough eating and 'gamey' smelling which is probably a result of them being powerful swimmers. I do know of ppl liking them in fish curries or the fried/sambal version but I have no preference for it.
