Daiwa vs Shimano

Hi kakis,

1) Question about Reels

I would like to compare the size of Daiwa and Shimano reels. Both of them uses different standards in the size of the reel. Am i right on the following?

Daiwa 3500 ~ Shimano 5000
Daiwa 4500 ~ Shimano 8000
Daiwa 6500 ~ Shimano 10000

What about the size of Stella SW20000 as compared to Daiwa? Can it par with Daiwa 6500 GT or DogFight?

Please advice.

Thank you.

CW.

10000 and 20000 basically share the same overall dimension and line capacity, main differences is the gear ration, 10000 SW with higher gear ration is essentially a popping reel whereas the slower but more powerful 20000 SW is meant for heavy jigging ?

Re: Daiwa vs Shimano

cw,

I am not sure what gear ratio is the 20000SW, but if it is a low speed, then the equivalent Daiwa is the Z6000 or the Z6500 Expedition. More like the 6500 if line capacity is taken into account.

If it is the high speed, then the Daiwa equivalent is the 6000GT and 6500 Dogfight. Similarly, the 6500 spool.

Line capacity of Stella 10000 and Stella 20000 are markedly different.
10000 [PE 4/400; 5/300; 6/250; 8/170]
20000 [PE 4/750; 5/600; 6/500; 8/350; 10/250 ]

As for gear ratio :
10000 is 6.0:1
20000 is 4.4:1

Hope this helps!

Re: Daiwa vs Shimano

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for the information.

I guess i will stick to getting SW10000. A PG will preferred in this case as i believe it can be use in both jigging and popping use. Am i right in this?

Regards,

CW,

Errr..think not.

SW10000 is HG.

HG = High Gear = retrive line faster = less retrive power = more speed, less power.

PG = Power Gear = retrive line slower = more retrive power = less speed, more power.

EG..if you are driving up hill...you change from 4th gear to 3rd n if it is steeper, you drop to 2nd gear. 2nd/3rd gear = Power Gear. 4th/5th gear = High Gear...for crusing...

No one says you cannot use your SW10000HG for jigging. Try it out and you will understand why..
