Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Catfight ........ Guess it happens in forums everywhere huh? Arguably two of the the biggest names in the world of big game fishing going at each other's throat in an open forum ... hilarious!!! Perhaps one of the many inevitable side effects of sponsorhip & product affilation. I think neither Accurate nor Shimano like what they are seeing. http://www.marlinnut.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/2548.html |

| Senior Member | Makaira , Just ask Alvin at A.O. how many time I have to buy parts from them for those Accurates that are kept at home and I have yet to buy anything for my Tiagras which I just leave them in the boat . Tiagra is by far the reel for me , Accurate is just too heavy maintenance and I have other better things to do than treating the reels like princess , beside I have my own princess to look after . | Senior Member | In the US they've ppl comparing Tiagras, Accurates and Avets In Singapore we've ppl comparing Saltigas and Stellas.. and some even go to the extend of putting down other brands just because they're not made in the country that they think produces the best fishing stuff in the world.. but have you ever considered that the very brand that you've just condemn might just be the very company that produces OEM parts/whole of their lower/mid ranges models of the brand that you worship... some ppl takes things too personal and felt that every word ppl replied to his thread/post other then those agreeing to his comments or claim are just out to put them down or even insult them and are difinitely wrong but think about it, those very comments that the thread/post starter made are also his/her personal tots so who is to says they're right or wrong... fishing is all about personal preferences, there is usually no definite right or wrong, like there was once when i was fishing with a friend using squid and as most ppl will cut it into strips my this friend cut them into a square and drop it into the sea with me laughing and teasing him but guess what, he caught 3 red snapper in a row with those square shape squid. bottomline is STFU and go fishing... Cheers Mark P.s. i still wouldn't used a square shape squid as bait... |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | As Mark said, it all boils down to personal preference. The saying goes like this -- "One man's meat is another's poison." While Sportsfisherman & many others have had very bad experiences with Accurate reels, personally, other than the early problems of bearing failure for the Boss series & relative high maintenance of Accurates in general -- there is no denying this high maintenance issue -- I am still very happy with their reels. I am sure there are others who feel the way I do. To date, I have had no problems with the Accurate 2 speeds, but I am sure there are others who have. My reason for starting this thread is to show an example of how personal feelings & involvement with a brand / product fueled by commercial affiliations can sidetrack objective evaluations & inputs. It is, IMHO, also clearly a clash of egos between two well-known individuals. It'll be fun to see how it ends Most of us being mere mortals, we should just go fishing & have fun doing it. ![]() |

| Senior Member | well... the differences between different brands of OH are marginal as compare to the differences between Penn spinning and Daiwa/Shimano spinning.. however, there is still not wrong in dumping a Stella for a Penn, so long as you enjoy your fishing and remember that "the fishes you landed is an achievement but the gears that you use is not" then you'll be fine.. anyway you have always had a SS9500 with you mah.. Cheers Mark |

My experience with TDRs are not " very bad " but just " annoying " enough , I have had worse experiences with other reputable brand but in spinning reel . Another thing is that I am getting lazy by day in maintaining my reels , nowaday for trolling outfits I let the crews of my boat do the general cleaning and admittedly they are not doing it properly so I send the reels periodically to a serviceman who do the work part time for certain clients only . On the subject of OEM , I was told that Okuma manufacture spinning reels for Penn and several other US brands , this is unconfirmed hear say , may be others can shed a light on this . | Moderator | Mak, Thanks for the link. The catfight aside, there are some really hilarious stories in that thread.... I really enjoyed the read. But to have those kind of personalities dishing it out on a public website, very very funny. As for made in the USA and drawing the parallels of buying fishing reels from Japan contributing to an economy that runs the biggest longline fleet in the world...gawd, that is stretching it a touch. I might say something similar about not buying products from a nation which is the biggest polluter in the world too....but I digress. Cat fights happen everywhere 'cos "a man only hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest" dude... (Simon & Garfunkel lyrics but very true most of the time). I mean think about it, guys we see it time and again. Some dude who professes to be new to fishing or some other line like that, puts up a post saying hey, I need to get a reel to do ABC type fishing and I am looking at getting reels X, Y or Z. So I amongst others reply saying such and such about those reels I have used and am using, and the guy comes back saying ok, but he was actually really looking at reel Z and keeps asking is it suitable for my fishing, is it reliable, has enough drag etc etc. So aside from the fact that I have answered his questions twice already, I answer them again and if I feel that his reel is not suitable, I'll just tell him the pros and cons again and let him make up his mind. BUT, 99% of the time, the dude will go ahead and buy the reel that he was looking at in the first place... So the moral of the story is next time just tell them to buy the first "Made in China" brand reel that you can think of saaaaay "White Rabbit", and tell them that it generates 30lbs of drag at strike with superb freespool due to its maintenance free ceramic bearings, is mostly titanium inside and the cute rabbit logo is lazer etched by hand by an impressionist master.... Chances are it wouldn't make a differnece anyway. Regards, Saimee |

| Senior Member | human being are on general biased, biased towards their belief, biased towards what they currently owned/using and even more biased towards what those ppl that they dislike own/using.. and not forgetting biased towards certain brands of tackle even thou he/she has never used/hold them before.. but it might not be a bad thing, at least because of that most tackle mfg can still survive in this ultra competitive market. Cheers |
