can try going Rompin, once the season start you'll have lots of them up to even ard 1kg, great fun with an ultra light tackle.... but no need to use $1000 dollars setup to catch them lah, right Stickbom?..... hahaha

BTW, some resturant in Rompin do cater to cooking squid that you caught at a small fee, they can do steaming, fry, and sambal and also heard from Fishfingers they can even do butter squid for you.

cheers

When squid season around southern islands, the place easily accessible to the public is labrador park jetty. Not too sure whether jetty lighting is on throughout the night(typically switched off at midnite for weekdays & on till next morning during weekends/hoilday eve). During squid season, used to see a group of regulars with kerosene pressure lamp & long squid nets.

Should the squid be still around, the next good period catching them will be from 4-12 May(days with dim or no moonlight). Green eyes are "by-catch" during squid season & may take artificial prawn jigs.

IMHO, the best squid jig are those baited jigs with umbrella hooks whereby the needle pierce through the bait(tamban, bait fish or live prawn with tail snipped off).

SG squid(just like fishes) having lived in a 1st world environment are "highly educated" . Personally, I find that they seldom get fooled by artificial jigs(yozuri prawn jig etc.) However, some had tried with success soaking aritifical jigs with tuna oil or fish attracting oil

Have fun jigging for squids & probably worth wetting a line or two with such good bait during night time besides enjoying such "liquid cholesterol" delicacy

Catch rate at labrador jetty is not fantastic (known to have lots of sea bugs steailing bait) but once a while, may produce good catch like ang cho >2Kg & kurau >2kg.

If we do get some squids after all, we can stuff the hot dogs into the squids then bbq. Sounds good?

Moderator, please move this thread to the recipe section! Just kidding.....

Squid fishing at Lobam Bintan .......

Squids appears in the night, even with full moon over here.
Every night, after work, I'll always make a detour to the Lobam jetty to chk out the latest happenings ... squid or baramumdi fishings ...
Always plenty of squids around, swimming in swarms like bees but no taker, as these are high cholesterol seafood ... bo pien I've got high blood pressure leh.
See no Eat.

eging

Hi jason, I am into catching squids/"green eyes" too.
You saw one of those Kingfisher VCDs where they go to island and cast for "green eyes"?

My friend has managed to get contact for boatman there (variouis places). You just need to pay him a fee, whatever you wanna do is up to you. Meaning, having paid for his charter, you can ask him to drop you off an the island to do squid jigging and he picks you at a specific timing, or you can do bottom fishing on board.

If booked the boat for 2 days, say over the weekend, you can do both bottom and squid jigging.

I am trying to get people for the trip, if any is interested.
Let me know if you are keen. We dun need a lot of people, maybe 4-5 or 5-6 will do.

Rgds
